Nick Robinson of Polygon Suspended, Vox Media Pending Investigation of Alleged Sexual Harassment

Yeah a part of me sees this whole thing as just kind of him being obtuse and making a mistake. As people do.
The important bit is the way he apologized and reflected on it which is cool. Obviously the people he hurt are within their right to feel how they want to feel about this but to me, personally, it's a good sign that he's not a malicious person when he's willing to readily fault himself.

And as you said, the way he responded gives me a lot of hope for him not just going nuclear and tanking as a public persona. I love all the stuff he's worked on; I hope it doesn't destroy his professional relationships and creative outlets. Hamper temporarily, I can abide, but I don't want another Nick & Griffin Original to end-- not gracelessly at least.

I think this is part of why this apology is more genuine than what you usually see these days. I'm making assumptions but it seems like the dms he sent were him just being an awkward flirt, and not just intentionally trying to abuse his status for sexual favors. Usually someone performing the latter would put up a half-assed apology.
That's not to take away from the apology, I really appreciate him completely taking fault.
If the leaked DMs are the most of it he shouldn't have to apologize.
If the leaked DMs are the most of it he shouldn't have to apologize.
I think shouldn't have to is a strong way of putting it. The fact that he did though says volumes and I'll agree that if the leaked DMs ARE the most of it, it should never have gotten as far as it did.
Hopefully he takes his self-reflection seriously and changes is ways. Manning up and not bullshitting was refreshing to see, now he just has to keep his word
What he "owns up to" in that tweet is just flirting with people who only later had complaints about it. The twitter replies seem to be upset with him for not self-immolating over it. It reeks of an undeserved witch hunt, i feel bad that people exist that think that normal human communication is worth attacking someone over. That's what happens when you work for polygon though, i guess. If you're not either a full sjw or a pedophile they won't care to defend your private life. They probably didn't deserve his work.
Nick was too good for Polygon anyways
Oh jeez... those twitter replies are really disheartening.
This dude was fired and took responsibility for everything that was levelled at him... and that's still not good enough for them?
I just don't understand what kind of response they're expecting. What could he have said that would make his apology acceptable?
To a lot of people, the world is black and white. You're either completely innocent and have never done a bad thing in your life, or you've done the maximum limit of One Bad Thing™ and you're convicted for the end of your days.
People don't understand that humans are capable of learning through making mistakes. And that's something that they're gonna have to realize eventually, lest they ostracize the wrong person.
Until then though, it's better to ignore them.

Nothing, the sad truth is that apologizing to these kind of people will only give them more ammo to demonize you. While apologizing would be the morally right thing to do, these kind of people just get more ammo to berate others even more, for something like THIS.

But it's just so confusing, a lot of people are saying this wouldn't've been okay even if he wasn't famous.
But that's implying that flirting and sliding into DMs is sexual harassment. Which it isn't.
Do they not know where they came from? Do they think their fathers/mothers were sexually harassing each other?
I'm not gonna lie, I've sent that exact picture to a lady before [sp]who is now my girlfriend[/sp]

Knowing how extreme these people can get, yes, I garuntee some people believe that.

you guys should really stop assuming the leaked DMs were the bulk of it
you guys should really stop assuming the leaked DMs were the bulk of it
So where's the rest of it? If you don't mind elaborating
you guys should really stop assuming the leaked DMs were the bulk of it
I'm not but we should also stop assuming they weren't the worst of it.
you guys should really stop assuming the leaked DMs were the bulk of it
I would love some more context out of this situation but hey

If that's their mentality.
"Your tears say more than real evidence ever could."
you guys should really stop assuming the leaked DMs were the bulk of it
That's the only evidence we have, so it's all we're basing our judgments on.
And at this point, Nick is completely in the clear, just being eaten alive people who'd be labeled as SJWs.
Nick did nothing wrong from what we know.
So where's the rest of it? If you don't mind elaborating
i do think there's more than what we've seen (i recall one of the leakers saying much of it is expired snapchats), but i also don't think we need to see it. nick's apology covers my worries very well and i've forgiven, and the people still upset need to detach themselves from this
it just feels like the twitter replies are doubting the validity of his apology from that side, and some here are doubting it because 'he didn't have to apologize for that'.
you guys should really stop assuming the leaked DMs were the bulk of it
I also think that a lot of people, not even inside facepunch, even understand the bigger picture. Or even sometimes exactly what went on.
People don't have to publicly disclose their personal relationship with Nick to the world, they can keep it direct and privately towards polygon/vox.
The one lady who came out saying Nick asked for a quick bj full on removed her account. Not saying if she wasn't to validate her claim further, but I believe this was a move also to help protect herself from the frenzy of users taking notice and messaging about it to her directly.
This also does not mean that Nick has to make a large public apology, he can do this, and he most likely that he will. But he'll contact them on their own private channels. The man spent an entire week without making any online presence I could track, it's some serious shit he's going through. And the replies to his statement just upset me more than they should.

Oh? I think we agree then.
Sorry it just sounded like you were trying to argue.
Ill be honest to say that if those awkward convos were the worst there was to """sex harassment""" claims then this is bordering on insanity. He should have apologized in case someone got uncomfortable, instead he wrote an apology as if he commited a carnal sin.

this isn't even the same person, its just some rando online who responded.
the person who posted the tweets posted context of that conversation, and videos proving it was nick so idk why you think one random person saying something dumb as fuck is "their mentality" when they had nothing to do with it

Which is why I said "their". it seems there's a fairly large amount of people who discourage actual evidence when wild accusations are being thrown into the air.
Funny enough how the context of the conversation didn't actually prove shit, they were just talking about a waluigi shirt and afterwards nick sends that meme pic, it doesn't show any actual proof whenever he's actually asking for nudes, so I think there's still room for actual basis and evidence to call someone a sexual harasser. You know, something that could ruin a person's public image and life.

Just as a logical principal, isn't it "innocent until proven guilty"
Just as a logical principal, isn't it "innocent until proven guilty"
and he confessed to his guilt, a confession i find very sincere and genuine. i wouldn't want to undermine it by focusing on a lack of evidence, and so i just assume it was respectfully kept under wraps.

i hope she doesn't whine a few years down the line when no guy wants to get anywhere near being intimate with her
I'm honestly impressed by the humility and honesty that Nick exuded in his response. This was a learning experience; a hard lesson, but a necessary one. Nick seems prepared to make the right decisions in the future, which is the only thing people should want. I'll miss him, but I hope that Nick manages to get back on his feet someday, making more genuinely hilarious content for people again.
I'm also really glad that I can enjoy his work and not feel guilty about it. This whole thing dropped when I was only a few episodes into Cool Games Inc.
see you space carboy...

I'm convinced that twitter is a fucking cancer for everyone involved.
