So what happened to Cobalt and Scrolls? Notch, you're suppose to finish games before you start the next one.
Why are people missing the painfully obvious fact that Notch isn't in charge, nor working on, either of the two projects, never have been and probably never will
In 2010 I asked him in IRC if he was gonna do an elite-style space trading sim, he said yep and I got a screencap of it. I posted a thread about it on FP but it seems the host of the screencap is down. I gotta find that image.
Spacestation 13 remake?
Lego Minecraft
that was lego's idea not notch's
Add space and trading to Minecraft please.
Add space and trading to Minecraft please.
For space to exist in minecraft you would have to make it so when you hit the top block of the world you load another world space themed. That has no gravity so you can fly to other worlds that generate random worlds when you hit the other planets. I kinda like the idea of that as a mod. I would have it so each world is only so big and the world seems round so when you go so fare it loops back on it's self.
Wouldn't it be better to create a separate team for the game? He has the resources, so why not use them wisely?
because he is not wise
because he is not wise
It is perfectly reasonable to poke around with an idea on your own until you are sure where you want it to go.
It's the only language he knows, Wurm and Minecraft were made in Java and guess what? In both games the performance is awfull.
Because the fault can't be in the code, it has to be in the language, I've seen the same map generation as Minecraft running way faster in Java, in fact if you look at Optifine they do optimizations for x86 and x64, multiple cpu cores, etc which speed up Minecraft a lot, Notch just hasn't done it in the core game, at least for now.

However, there is no doubt that Java overall is a lot slower compared to C.
Spacecraft.
Instant lawsuit. I'm predicting it right now. No thanks, starfarer is already taking care of this.
Would you rather he wasn't ambitious?
I guess it's much better to be that way than to simply make a shitload of money off a single product, buy a bunch of shit/a house/go on vacations and never produce anything ever again.
and try to charge as soon as possible, because it's probably going to be open ended sandbox game as well, so it doesn't need to be completed before people can play it."
So you can have my money and not have to finish it?
ctrl + f ... Vacation.
I just love how these threads are 10% talking about the actual news, and 90% whining and bitching at Notch. Get over it.
Besides, I would very much enjoy if he kept doing the thing where he starts a game and then hands it off to someone competent
If only people here knew what they were talking about when they were whining about how slow Java is. Which it isn't. I don't think Notch expected the game to get as famous as it did and thought it was just another one of his casual projects, meaning he didn't really optimize it. He just made it to have fun.
I honestly don't get all the notch hate. It's perfectly reasonable to start a few projects and decide which one works best and stick with that one. I, for one, am looking forward to seeing what this will become. I definitely like the concept.
Despite the hypocrisy of my title, this was one of the games I was looking forward to when Notch revealed that he would be making "Three more games" after Minecraft. (Scrolls, this and some "fantasy-football-fantasy-themed-manager). Since I've just got turned on to Firefly (clocks, whee), and freakin' LOVE IT, I am looking very forward to how this turns out. I'll even accept "Minecraft in Space", if I have to.
I sometimes wish Garry would try to do what notch does, and do more games, minus being a lazy ass ( I know garry is very active anyways ) though with the newest Gmod he's pretty busy, I want to see what he could do otherwise
