never played any of the TES games (I dunno why). I liked Fallout New Vegas. I should get both or 1 of them?. I dont wanna have games dying in my list because they bored me.
Morrowind bored the shit out of me I barely made it past the first quest before I quit and uninstalled it.
Morrowind was hard as hell for me to get into, I got killed an assload of times, and the combat system left me in bad situations most of time.
Once I started getting used to the game, I started loving all that shit. If you took the best of Morrowind and stuck it on the newest engine with some updated mechanics, I would buy that shit in an instant.

That sucks for you because it's the best in the Elder Scrolls series by orders of magnitude
Morrowind has been the only game so far in the series with actual character to it. Oblivion was generic fantasy forest #93,146 and as much as I enjoy Skyrim, it's basically Norway with some dragons.
The only thing that has ever kept me from getting into morrowind is the combat system. Otherwise it is a fantastic game.
I got into Morrowind by exploring and just doing quests that I found when travelling, I swear I spent hundreds of hours without even touching the main quest. (over many years but still)
I got Morrowin for like 20 bucks once in a grocery store when i was like 12. Loved it despite not knowing basically anything. Like how I'd go through peoples crates taking all their armour and stuff without anybody noticing, figured they were okay with it like it was Zelda, and it took me a couple of brutal killings (I figured the nord with the giant battleaxe was just being a dick) to get that stealing was frowned upon. I don't think I even completed a proper quest.
Then I lost it and could never find the game anywhere again. So getting this
I kinda wanna get Morrowind but everyone's talk about the terrible combat system scares me. I also never played any of the ES games (besides screwing around for 30 minutes in Skyrim at a friend's house) and I don't know if I would rather want Morrowind or Oblivion. I liked both Fallout 3/NV, so I guess that means I'd enjoy Oblivion more, though.
I honestly did not like Morrowind. It had more content but it wasn't fun content.
Literally 90% of the quests in that game were "Go tell soandso this and then come back to me"
So yeah boring fetch quests on top of a bad combat system and quest log made it very difficult to enjoy for me.
Actually I wouldn't even call them fetch quests because you didn't even fetch anything.

I hate to say it, but Oblivion's combat spoiled me.
Morrowind's combat basically boiled down to staring at the enemy and tapping mouse1 and waiting for the random number god to grant you the ability to hit the person in front of you.
I remember playing Morrowind at my friends house yeeeeaaars ago. I stole a bunch of shit and got stuck in a room with all the town outside. This would be a good time to pick up from where I left off

Wait, Norway doesn't have dragons already?
In all seriousness, this discussion actually intrigues me; installing Morrowind as I type. Sounds like a solid game, at least according to most in this thread.

I honestly feel sorry for people who played Oblivion first.
Morrowind is a full-on RPG, almost D&D-esque with the way it works. When you look at it like that, psh.
One of the best games of all-time.
I noticed a lot of people saying that Oblivion sucks but played that game countless hours :v:
Get both if you have the money. But the combat in Morrorwind is really fucking annoying. You basically only tap you mouse button. The big difference is that even if you stand in front of an enemy with a weapon and slash like crazy, there is a chance that you miss. The combat is calculated with dice rolling and you can miss very often even when you stand in front of them. It has a more classical approach.
In Oblivion though, if you hit someone with your sword you can hit it, but unless you have decent skill/weapon you won't make much damage. It appears a lot more realistic and rewarding. Because there might be chance to defeat a strong opponent.
only 50%? ill wait for the summer sale.
definitely picking up Morrowind again
Bought both when I got on this morning. I love morrowind but I hate reading npc text.
how the hell is morrowind still retailing for 20bucks
You know you assholes can get a morrowind mod that insures you hit 100% of the time
But it ruins the game so tread carefully
how the hell is morrowind still retailing for 20bucks
It's just that good.
I bought morrowind years ago with all the expansions, I just never got into it
Maybe I was late to the show but I really didn't see the appeal in Morrowind. I absolutely hate the combat and the walls of text worth of dialogue. My first TES game was Oblivion in 2007 or so though so maybe that's why Morrowind won't work for me.
I wholeheartedly recommend Oblivion and The Shivering Isles though. I had tons and tons of fun in those.
I bought Oblivion instead of Fallout New Vegas a year ago. It was the best investment I've ever done.
The thing with morrowind is you need to have a capacity to like real classic style RPGs in order to get past the "barrier to entry" for morrowind
If your only experience in the RPG genre is action/RPG hybrids like Oblivion/Skyrim or Fable, there's a high chance you'll not like Morrowind
If you have experience and can seriously enjoy older style RPGs like baulder's gate, fallout, any MMORPG, pretty much all jRPG's like Final Fantasy or Grandia, and you treat Morrowind like a first-person version of those style of games, then you'll be able to easily get over the combat mechanics and grow to love the game
I haven't tried Morrowind, but I heard it's one of the best games ever, though I really enjoyed Oblivion. Definetly a must-buy in my book
