They don't want to fix anything of importance (land generation, optimization, features, combat, etc) because they find it "too difficult". I remember that Dinnerbone guy stating in the forums that the reason they aren't fixing the world generation was because it was "too difficult".

Not to mention keeping fed is really easy.
