I read yesterday that they patented being able to search for apps and stuff on your phone and are winning in non-US countries. Samsung had to release a patch for all their S3's that disabled the search function. And this...this is just. This is almost worse. I don't even know.
Nope, that was in the US actually, and they pushed the update to international devices per accident. They're reimplementing the search function in a later update to fix it.
A new patent application
Jesus christ cool your shit, this is no guarantee that they'll get it (although knowing apple patents it looks pretty likely)
Are you guys a little blind? They aren't trying to patent a Sony PS3 controller like thing. They're attempting to make iOS devices able to communicate to a controller and be able to emulate it.
From what it looks like they're patenting some cross communication between iDevice and controller and iDevice and console rather than just patenting "controller". [editline]26th July 2012[/editline] In fact that's exactly what they're doing.
Thank you. They're not trying to patent the goddamn Dualshock and Xbox 360 guys. Still pretty lame, but the thing is the phone only has one search app so they had to remove the non-internet search functions.
This thread should be renamed "Dumbass writer at Shacknews doesn't know how to read patents".
Luckily Sony has their own patents :v:
This thread should be renamed "Dumbass writer at Shacknews doesn't know how to read patents".
Everyone is in a fucking bandwagon.
Ahhhh. This is cool. I wonder if this will solve the problem when you're at your friends house and he only has one controller.
Ahhhh. This is cool. I wonder if this will solve the problem when you're at your friends house and he only has one controller.
Or one of those funky annoying MadCatz :v:
hey, this is a kind of cool idea, where the iphone/ipod will learn a controller, and be able to behave like it
The Pippin returns....
Isn't android already capable of connecting to a controller. In fact if you have root access you can use a PS3 controller. Also This if you have too android devices (not the same thing as phone to console, but close enough).
According the patent the reason the the PS3 controller is show is you get information about it and its buttons and it loads it onto your iPhone and you can use your iPhone as a controller for your PS3. Though it didn't really specify PS3 or any other brand name. Looks like everyone in this thread didn't even bother to read the patent but rather looked at the title and looked at the first picture and though "Apple patents PlayStation controller".
That would be pretty fucking ballin, I want my android phone to do this. Too bad it won't be able to if the patent goes through.
That would be pretty fucking ballin, I want my android phone to do this. Too bad it won't be able to if the patent goes through.
It should be possible. Who knows, maybe someone who's smart enough to develop something similar, like it works with the OUYA console. It should work with the PS3 and 360 doing the same thing.
Isn't android already capable of connecting to a controller.
Apple obviously came up with it first. -scoff-
In fact if you have root access you can use a PS3 controller.
Didn't know that. Buying 12 PS3 controllers now.
Also This if you have too android devices (not the same thing as phone to console, but close enough).
Control your phone... with a phone! GENIUS.
Um But Apples whole idea with gaming and application use on a phone was that every game could have individual control schemes this completely fucks that up
And once again FP flips it shit over something Apple-related without even reading the article.
They got thumbsticks, it's time for us to sue them!
If Apple sues Sony and Microsoft, even though it's not likely, I wish they get their asses handed to them by the army of lawyers from both Sony and Microsoft. Also, my uncle is a lawyer for Microsoft, so I'm a bit excited
