Anyone who uses the C key to crouch is a hopeless degenerate
cause you exit out of the game and start typing and to your dismay when you look at your sentences EVERYTHING LOOKS LIKE THIS AND TO BE HONEST THIS IS SUPER FRUSTRATING ONCE YOU REALIZE WHAT YOUVE DONE.
THAT ALWAYS BOTHERED ME IN OBLIVION SINCE IT TOGGLED AUTOWALK
Depends on the game. I use ctrl for nearly all games but in Space Engineers it's easier to use C since ctrl is used for other commands. Also in Crysis 2 it's easier to use C since it makes it easier to go into a slide from a sprint.
What a title.
But I agree.
E is clearly the superior key for crouching
the amount of people completely unable to understand what a joke or humour is is mindboggling
However someone who uses the C key to crouch is not welcome, and they do not deserve our respect. The C key is the bastion of fools, and as a community we need to shame its use.
how the fuck do you read this and not think this is a joke
Depends on the game I'm playing and if it's toggle.
If it's toggle then I'd would just use ctrl to crouch normally and C to toggle crouch.
For example if I'm playing Doom (2016), I would not change it as I don't crouch that often in that game.
But if it's for a game like Far Cry 3, I'd change it to controll as I crouch more often in that game due to the stealth mechanics as I'd press it more.
Just use what ever you are confortable with whether that be C, Ctrl, or any other key on your keyboard. The article is plain stupid.
Alt to crouch master race here.
I agree with "use what you like best" and every game should have the ability to rebind keys.
But I do find it weird that many games choose unfitting keys for their actions. Like I for inventory, M for map or L for log. I know they use the same letter as the action begins with but who wants to reach all over the keyboard from WASD up to I to open the inventory all the time when it could be on Tab (I always put it there) or somewhere else?
This makes me either look at the keyboard (it's on a tray beneath the table, so I would have to slide it out) and distract from the screen or make me use my right hand which should be on the mouse at all times.
Call me a console peasant, but that is the main reason why I use the a gamepad for most games that also appear on console. I don't play them competitively and don't need 100% precision in shooter games. I just want comfortable controls.
Good fucking luck playing any game with a slide or dive function with CTRL as crouch.

I do that like all the time though.
Hell, I played Arkham City with dive on ctrl and only had problems with that one fucking bonus mission where you had to do some crazy maneuvers with it.
I dunno, anyone who doesn't use Alt Gr to crouch is fuckin' weird.
If the game also has prone, C is perfectly fine, having them side by side as toggles is actually great.

Works well for me in Warframe and literally every other game I've played.
I've grown so accustomed to awkwardly bending my pinky for ctrl that anything else feels weird.
I just use the side of my hand to hold CTRL down rather than bend my fingers.
Shift is what I use for crouching if there's no sprinting because it's way easier to press with my pinky finger, but otherwise it's C if crouching is a toggle
If for some reason a game can't let me toggle crouch, I use ctrl

Dying Light. Never used anything but Ctrl for crouch.
I was a parkour master in that game too.

if you use ctrl how the fuck are you supposed to crouch sprint?????
Been using C as crouch since Half-Life 1. I ain't gonna switch.

If it's a toggle it's fine. If not, die C scum

C is perfect for toggle, as z is for prone
you people are morally in the wrong because a thing on the internet said so and that makes it bad or what

I usually bind Duck+Jump into the same binding, so I duckjump every single time no matter what
and then I always have sprint on the mouse as back or forward
This seems like a pointless discussion
Idk if this is a thing with just my keyboard, but I have to twist my thumb in an uncomfortable position to reach CTRL. Never felt good even when I got used to it.

I tend to use CTRL as crouch, toggle or not.
The only thing that prevents me from doing is sprinting, since shift and ctrl are the only keys I use that pinky for, and those aren't things I'm going to be doing at the same time.
My left pointer finger has enough on its plate, it doesn't need crouch over there too.

Your thumb?!

use your ring finger for shift when you also need to crouch.
CTRL is for fire, arrow keys are for movement.

That's never a situation that arises.
I'm either sprinting or crouching and it's a very rare case that hitting sprint while crouching does anything other than stand me up and begin running.
I use Alt because I had an easier time crouch jumping in Source games than with Ctrl. Then it just stuck with me and most games I'll bind most crouches to Alt now.

do you not play any game that uses shift as sprint/walk and switching between sprint/walk with crouch is not a tactical choice? because you have 700 hours in csgo and you saying that you never have the need to use shift or ctrl at basically the same time never arises.

My muscle memory always tells me to twist my thumb in such a way that I can reach that CTRL without moving my fingers from WASD.
I hate crouching.
I can use either ctrl or C
