this game is dead it's a frankenstein of mods and useless features with no meaning notch got out good at the right time he had his money i don't know, maybe i'm a little older and less creative than when i first bought it just after it passed into beta (jan 2012?) but yeah it doesn't feel as good playing it as it used to be

It runs significantly better in pretty much every regard: chunks load incredibly quickly, memory/CPU usage is lower (still rather high), FPS is significantly smoother and higher. i remember trying this out with a friends account once. it was fun building a small cabin and creating cannons and all sorts of contraptions with red dust. then the nether, end realm, and all the random crap was added.

vanilla minecraft is garbage

Additional mobs, blocks or entities are pretty redundant because of mobs. Optimizations are good but besides that, the only update worth anything will (hopefully) be the Mod API.

Sometimes I think that a lot of the folks who say vanilla is shit are just trying to play single player or something. SP is literally shit this game is meant to be played with friends and on great servers with at the very least some bukkit plugins. We have a lot of cool and inventive servers over on our Minecraft section if you any of you are wanting to get back into the game go check it out.

This game could have been much better. How about starting from scratch with minecraft 2? It's not like Notch can't sell off one of his yachts and fill up their stupid posh office with more devs and funds.

He's definitely not hurting for anything right now.

It'd be nice if they developed a remotely engaging combat system, maybe gave enemies some semblance of an attack animation and made the swordfighting more than a simple "click on enemy to damage it" Unless they do that I can't really get excited for what seems like more of the same shit, the coding stuff seems interesting but it doesn't seem like it'll have much gameplay impact

It would be nice if enemies had varied attacks/movements instead of having enemy A run towards you and hit you/explode/etc.
