And in spite of all of this anecdotal evidence: I have 2 500gb seagate drives that have been chugging along in my pc since like 2006 or so when 500gb was brand new shit. They were some of the first sata drives I owned too. A good few of my IDE/ATA WD drives still work to this day as well, though they haven't been in a system for years to be fair.
