can someone just copy paste the updates list next time the site is up???
Is it not showing for you? Well, big copypaste here then.
Update 13: Willits says bye to people watching the stream. Doom time. Update 666: Trailer of monsters, “unholy fusion of flesh and metal.” They look pretty Pacific Rim like, which makes sense given that they have one of the movie’s main artists on it. Trailer ends with a shotgun loading sound. Pretty insubstantial. There will be slimy, ugly monsters. Not even sure if that was in-engine. Update 667: Oh, now it’s time for the real details. Game is just called Doom, not Doom 4. Update 668: And then I lost connection for the entire demo. Took notes, though. Here you go: Doom created to be fast, brutal. Not waiting around for health to recharge. Showed quick animatics of enemies getting gibbed. Looks OK. There will be fast-paced competitive multiplayer. Will run on a new evolution of their tech, Id Tech 6. Game will be on PC and next-gen consoles. Demo time. Marine puts on helmet. Walks through corridors I’m big facility. Tons of lava below. Finds a trail of blood. Graphics look nice, but nothing insane. Level design seems very linear. Demons appear. Super quick movement. Shooting followed by tearing into demons and ripping out organs, all in one quick movement. Literally tearing them in half sometimes. Almost God of War esque in that respect. Hyper violent. Need a hand to use a key scanner. Go rip the arm off a corpse and push it against the scanner. This is ridiculous. Go upstairs. Surrounded by demons. Shotgun them, stun, and move in for the finish. Crushing heads, chunks flying everywhere. Lots of walkways and rails. Demon gets shot and falls in half. Demons are pretty basic. Humanoid. Long-range spell attacks and up close clawing. Finds beam assault rifle. Mowing everything down with it. Lots of explosions now. Leaping on top of crates and rails and slamming down on enemies. Encounter hologram of someone saying they’ve “lost containment.” That’s an understatement. Update 669: First demo ends with a demon ripping the player’s arms off and beating him to death with them. Seriously. Second demo. Walk through quiet, less lava-filled warehouse area. Them demons. Player finds the chainsaw, which peels enemies in half like rotten banana peels. They get all floppy and everything. There’s a radial menu you can pop up to switch weapons. It briefly slows down time. Bigger demons show up in slightly more open room full of crates. Tough, mobile. Can climb stuff. Then a big fat demon. Super slow, but has multiple projectile attacks. Kill it by ripping out the pustule in its stomach and shoving it down its own mouth, causing it to explode into a pile of lard and entrails. Open a door. Cyberdemon towers over player, roars. Then the demo ends. The game looks… interesting. The emphasis on melee definitely changed the flow of combat, and double-jumping mixed with light parkour antics mean there’s a little verticality to the proceedings. Also it is insanely, ludicrously violent. I liked the part where the man who was beating everyone to death with their own arms got beat to death with his own arms. That’s basically fucking poetry. That’s it for now. More QuakeCon coverage soon, though.
[editline]17th July 2014[/editline] shoot, i can't edit properly and i got ninja'd :saddowns:
First demo ends with a demon ripping the player’s arms off and beating him to death with them.
That's way too amazing for a death animation.
surely someone hid a phone or camera inside their orifices and recorded this stuff
I don't know, I really liked how brutal doom added a bit more gore to it, but the way it's described seems a little excessive. I'm going to hope for levels of gore that go beyond on/off.
I know I shouldn't get hype for anything, but it does sound like they're doing a lot of things right, even if the level design may be kinda linear. That said it was probably a vertical slice or one of the smaller bits they've already finished, and for all we know the rest of the game could be Hexen-style hubs and mazes. Yeah, maybe not though. The day that happens would probably be the day I end up with a girlfriend, considering the diamond dust and black gold most game levels are made from nowadays.
surely someone hid a phone or camera inside their orifices and recorded this stuff
And if they released the footage they would get sued out their asses. They probably had to sign NDAs or some shit.
Hey RPS: STOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP
These title's get really fucking annoying, especially when you title it SPESS HULKSPESS HULKSPESS HULKSPESS HULK and then fill the whole article with: SPESS HULKSPESS HULKSPESS HULKSPESS HULKSPESS HULK
RIP AND TEAR: The Video Game
So far, this sounds pretty damn cool.
I never minded the base gameplay of Brutal Doom at all, really. It's the overly obnoxious and loud FUCK YOURSELF and enemies doing their pained/death screams near-constantly after I did something or another to them that really makes it annoying to go back to. I'm sure someone's gonna be trying to tweak Brutal Doom to fit what we've learned about Doom 4 so far, though.

The flipping off, the suffering and pained screams, and the over-brutalization of everything is just not really my kind of thing. That's where the actual charm of Doom wears off and just becomes a senseless gore-fest. I get that's some people's thing, and that's fine, but it's certainly not 'the way Doom is meant to be played' in my eyes. It's just a mod. [editline]17th July 2014[/editline] Not to mention the creator is a huge racist/homophobic prick.
can we see a video of this thing.
also, atm health orbs and ammo are dropped from enemies but possibility of player health regen in the future isnt ruled out by id i never knew about this
Just search for him, and you'll see that he's been banned on pretty much every Doom forum except one or two for it. I think there's also some kind of prejudice remark in the code of one of the releases of BD. To say the least, he's not a very nice fellow.
he made a comment about how you could burn the imps in brutal doom, blackening them "like n----rs," in his own words. Without the censorship dashes of course.
he is also a neo nazi
Wasn't DooM 1 considered way brutal and gorey when it was released? So why shouldn't this?
Why couldn't I have born in 'merica
Wasn't DooM 1 considered way brutal and gorey for its age? So why shouldn't this?
Standards have changed. After all, God of War was attacked more controversy-wise for nudity, tits and sex minigames than Kratos ripping off Medusa heads, disemboweling monsters and humans alike, and punting Cerberus puppies like footballs.
I don't like the sound of "linear" tho'
I don't like the sound of "linear" tho'
The old Doom was inherently linear, since you go to Point A to get a Keycard to gain access to Point B, hit a switch that opens up a few monster closets and allows you to reach the exit at Point C. The exploration, both for supplies and secrets, was the real illusion of free movement in the old games back then. If it's anything like Wolfenstein The New Order but without some of the mid-game pacing issues, then this should be sufficiently more than just a one-way ticket of an average corridor shooter.
Let's get right to the point. No questions were taken and very little was said. About 10 to 15 minutes were shown on a PC with someone playing live. The following are my observations, presented as objectively as I can manage: Doom is a remake of the original set on Mars, though additional locations seem likely. The two maps that were shown resemble Doom 3, but are much more expansive, open and busy. The player's helmet provides overlayed information, replacing the static HUDs of the previous games. Early on, the player rips the arm off a dead marine and uses his hand to access an otherwise restricted area. The combat uniform looks very high tech and facilitates melee attacks, such as crushing an enemy's head. Nearly all enemies shown appear to have cybernetic elements, though they are equally as organic. The layouts encourage jumping, with the player leaping very high and gracefully. Barrels create enormous explosions. The first map had a geo-thermal theme, with lots of sparks and lava. The doors use the classic sound and eveven look the part. Cargo ships or possibly drones could be seen flying in the distance. The second map featured a slightly hellish area that felt very Doom 64-ish, complete with hanging body parts. Player movement ranges from creeping slow to very fast, less so than Doom 1 but way more than Doom 3. The most human looking enemies looked very grotesque and used weapons that resembled light beams and possibly concentrated fire. The chainsaw, pistol, shotgun, super shotty, rocket launcher and plasma rifle were shown. No sign of reloading or alt fire. Enemies react to where they're hit. Many gibbed in a variety of ways depending on the weapon. The chainsaw in particular tore zombies down the middle in an extremely brutal and visceral manner, and it was different every time. The revenant has a jet pack and killed the player by ripping his arms off and beating him to death. The mancubus had an extremely gruesome death involving having a piece of its gut shoved down its throat. Every weapon seemed to haves lot of power to it. The shotguns have a very good range. Sound effects were punchy and meaty. The music combined dark ambient and indusrial. No sign of metal or guitars, period. The overall visual style is very detailed and resembles all of the Dooms, with a lot of Doom 3 thrown in, but with far more going on. The player can jump on too of enemies and perform brutal mellee attacks. As for comparisons to Brutal Doom, the blood and gore is very extreme, but appropriate within the context of the combat. The mellee attacks never slow down gameplay and happen within the POV in a couple seconds. Each enemy looks unique and the classics are recognized easily. The cyberdemon was shown at the end, but no combat ensued. There is an implication that the monsters are UAC experiments gone wrong. No sign of helo from NPCs. Graphics aren't groundbreaking, but does look much better than Rage and significantly better than TNO. Overall, they're true to the gritty industrial tendencies of the series, complimented by very moody use of light and shadow. The game will have multiplayer and eill appear on XBOX1, PS4 and PC with a promise of 1080p 60FPS.
From Doomworld
I still haven't finished Doom II dangit
I still haven't finished Doom II dangit
I haven't actually finished a single game, but besides Doom 64 and Doom 3 BFG Edition, I've played bits of them all. I guess I'll finally have to play one through.
I haven't actually finished a single game, but besides Doom 64 and Doom 3 BFG Edition, I've played bits of them all. I guess I'll finally have to play one through.
I've played every retail Doom outing besides BFG Edition (discounting re-releases, but I've also dabbled with PSX Doom alot), but only ever completed Doom 1 Episode 1, Doom 3, and Doom 3 Resurrection of Evil. At least, without cheating or level skips. I'm bad at finishing titles. :v:
Nope, just saying it doesn't really help his case. Already stated why I don't really care much for Brutal Doom above that. [editline]17th July 2014[/editline] I'm not saying people can't enjoy it either. I used to play it some myself and it's pretty fun, but the novelty just wears on me after a while.
Are you judging the product by the beliefs of its creator like people do with Fez?
why would you even bother to defend brutal doom lol. the creator is an insufferable moron but somehow suddenly he's ok because he appealed to moron gamers. moddb's staff should ban him asap
Oh boy, get ready for some serious shit.
Interesting to be getting the third interpretation of Doom 1 in as many decades, and with pretty close to ten years between each. Doom '94, Doom 3, and new Doom together should show how video game trends have changed throughout the years since 1994
Does that make his mod any less appealing and popular just because of what he thinks?
uh yeah
