We're going back to Mars again?
I, ah... Alright, I guess. Wasn't Doom 4 supposed to take place on Earth?
Well, whatever. I'm hyped as shit. I'm just disappointed that there's an industrial soundtrack, and not a classic thrash metal style soundtrack.
Does that make his mod any less appealing and popular just because of what he thinks?
Being both half-black and bisexual, it kiiiinda makes it hard to get behind his work.
Even it it wasn't made by him, it's simply not my kind of thing.
I guarantee that you've all used, purchased or enjoyed products/games made by people or companies who believe in some stupid shit, whether you know it or not. Criticism for being over the top is one thing, and it is valid criticism, but to criticize Brutal Doom because the creator has a few fucked up beliefs is stupid ad hominem.
Sounds interesting, but too bad these fucks locked it only for the people in Quakecon.
Also, industrial soundtrack? I don't think these will be as moody as the OST in Doom I/II.
why would you even bother to defend brutal doom lol. the creator is an insufferable moron but somehow suddenly he's ok because he appealed to moron gamers. moddb's staff should ban him asap
"people like different things therefore they're morons"
Yeah, the weapon balance is way off and the creator is a fucktard, but it's still a fun mod to play with friends online.
You're not smarter than anyone just because you don't share a certain set of interests with them.

how am i not smarter than the creator
i'm not a neo-nazi nor i bother to play a game made by some guy whose tried to drive people to suicide? lol
from the sound of it theyre doing a very good job, i just want to see a gameplay video
Brutal Doom is a decent mod, but I feel that it doesn't encompass the true feeling of Doom. It really shouldn't be used as a representative of the Doom series as a whole.
However, the thing that really puts me off Brutal Doom is SGT. Mark IV. As stated before, he is a massive, massive prick. Oh and not to mention the "Real Gore" fiasco, his suicide remarks, etc.

I'm not sucking his dick, I'm playing his mod.

Also, for reference, I was talking about:

He's an asshole, but if that's the only reason you have for not playing the mod, then that's pretty dumb to be honest.
Certainly not smart enough to make a popular Doom mod that inspired a new flagship official game in the franchise
There was probably some Brutal Doom influence, but I don't think the new game is based entirely off it. A lot of the retro FPS revivals since Serious Sam 3 have been gory as shit, and I thought that iD is just trying to follow up on the trend.
More crazy action and less darkroom scares is exactly what I want from the next Doom. Sounding interesting so far.
I wish I'd taken the extra day off work to go to this. I won't be at Quakecon until tomorrow morning.
the music is described as industrial and quake-like
So possibly Trent Reznor might be coming back? That'd be cool
Also, is there at least a screen shot showing the general layout? I find it hard to believe someone didnt snip a quickie.

Judging by the lack of any known leaks at all so far, Bethesda must've been thorough in preventing cameras from being used.
And if they released the footage they would get sued out their asses. They probably had to sign NDAs or some shit.
If it was like a few years ago's Skyrim presentation, or RAGE. they ask you not to film it when you walk in, and might make you leave if they saw you filming, but that's about it. I'm pretty sure both were uploaded minutes after the presentations finished, and I would be surprised if that hasn't happened here.
Okay, let's just all agree that NashGore is better than Brutal Doom anyways.
I'd say someone drops a photo at a library computer, proxies the shit out of it, then multiply it to thousands of websites.
He's an asshole, but if that's the only reason you have for not playing the mod, then that's pretty dumb to be honest.
if you don't wanna play a game made by a deeply repulsive and racist shitbag of a person, don't. moral accountability is a thing and certain people like to stick to it, and it seems pretty silly for you to criticize that when you're the one defending his ability to be a literal neo-Nazi
[editline]18th July[/editline]
i mean you want to talk about some actually dumb ideas how about "let's lynch dudes on the basis of race"

Is there even actual proof that he's a neo-nazi?
There is an incredible amount of yes in this news.
As both a thing for me and my friend to play with, and as a middle finger to Sgt. MK IV, I made a mod for Brutal Doom that makes Doomguy into a girl. :v:
Is there even actual proof that he's a neo-nazi?
From my understanding of things, half the shit about SargentMarkIV is totally blown out of proportion. The racist remark in the code was just "The plasma gun turns whites into niggers faster than rap!" and his 'attempt' to drive someone to suicide (the guy he did this to is still alive and kicking) was just linking a guy who made an emo thread about how he hates his parents to a Wikipedia article on the exit bag. There are plenty of reasons to dislike him, like the fact that Brutal Doom is full of assets taken from other modders with no permission granted or credit given, or that he is not a very nice person online, but I think it's totally ridiculous to say shit like "He's literally a Nazi who likes to give INNOCENT CHILDREN advice on how to kill themselves!".
That being said, I'm really excited for new Doom, but I'm also fairly cautious. What made Doom so great IMO, was the level design, and I'm not entirely sure if it's possible to pull it off outside of the original Dooms. Fuck, I hope they release some gameplay footage soon.
So judging from what I'm reading so far, it's very influenced by Brutal Doom, which is pretty cool -- I mean, can you blame them for looking at it and saying "hmmm why didn't we think of that?", and implementing it? I certainly don't.
I don't want to get hyped, but holy shit I'm so erect right now.
Some folks at Doomworld are already disliking this for being essentially a triple-A Brutal Doom so far.
Pfft, fucking hipsters. It's to be expected of them, I guess.
The old Doom was inherently linear, since you go to Point A to get a Keycard to gain access to Point B, hit a switch that opens up a few monster closets and allows you to reach the exit at Point C. The exploration, both for supplies and secrets, was the real illusion of free movement in the old games back then. If it's anything like Wolfenstein The New Order but without some of the mid-game pacing issues, then this should be sufficiently more than just a one-way ticket of an average corridor shooter.
See? This guy gets it.
And what's that about not liking a mod because the creator has questionable ideas you don't agree with? I like his mod, and I couldn't care less about what he believes in. It's not even my business, and I see no reason why someone should make it his own. You don't see people hating on Mercedes-Benz because they built racecars paid with Nazi money in the '30s and '40s, it's pretty stupid.
Let's not turn this into a "lessons in humanity" thread.
I want to see gameplay footage soooo badly
I'm scanning Twitter for even a screenshot, I'm so excited!
I'll hold off until we see real gameplay.
also brutal dooms shit anyway
At this point, depending on the gameplay footage we get in the upcoming weeks, I'll be wondering if Sgt_Mark_IV wasn't hired by Bethesda/ID as a Creative Consultant for the game.
If that's the case (he never said anything about it in his Brutal Doom Facebook page), then congrats, he earned it.
I really hope the next Doom Demon look would be more friendly to the first two doom games.
Tbh Doom 3 Demons looks like shit
I hope they are not going to torture us for too long.
I hope the monsters actually look rather disgusting. That's one of the aspects I like from the Dead Space games -- the necromorphs look like straight out of a Cannibal Corpse album cover.
The crowd went berserk just seeing the chainsaw icon.
Needless to say, the chainsaw was not a clean way to go out for the demons meeting the business end of the weapon. Bodies were sliced in two every which way, giving all watching plenty of time to study the anatomy of demons. One demon even cowered in fear, holding his arms up over his head to try and block the attack, but his efforts proved fruitless. The chainsaw cut through his arms and then through his skull and body.
Holy fucking shit, that's straight up Brutal Doom stuff. I can totally imagine Sgt_Mark_IV implementing such a thing. THIS IS IT.
"We're creating Doom to make you feel like a fast, improvisational, brutal killing machine."
"Brutal", heh.
My money is on Sgt_Mark_IV being hired as a Creative Consultant.
Last time someone hired Sgt_Mark, we've got ROTT 2013's stiff gibs with weird blood, but that was probably Interceptor's fault
There's a reason why no one likes to play Brutal Doom survival.
