FUCK I'll be sticking with Steam for this for a while!
Awesome!
No no no no no no no no
If the software requires Steam to be running I would not consider this at all. Not going to consider it anyways because I don't want anymore of my shit locked to the Steam service.
I can imagine this with Valve.
Getting VAC banned in Microsoft Word for enabling the Developer tab and making a macro. :v:
Then the internet goes down and you can't open Word or Photoshop
i don't think softwares like word or photoshop are ever going to end up on steam. I think they're going to sell FRAPS and shit.
They will probably expand it for free and if you want more you'll have to pay for it like Dropbox or Gdrive.
They will have an uphill battle if they are trying to compete with Dropbox.
This is cool but I hate the Steam Cloud, even when you disable it it still requires it for some things, really stupid.
I wouldnt mind having things like gimp, libreoffice... and other free software on steam but if I buy software that im going to be using professionally I dont want to have to worry about it not working if steam/valve dies

That's the what-if to if the service is good or not.
,
Steam should be bring in other media forms like films and music first, not programs.

Blech, Steam is good and all, but I don't want my other program's being bound to Steam.
I bet if it was EA doing this, you would all be bitching about it.
we getting software summer/xmas sales too?
we getting software summer/xmas sales too?
For the music, iTunes is already too dominant and has most of the big music corporations bound by contracts - as for the movies there a few on Steam, but only with the Indie Game movie one being pay-to-watch. Again, other service providers like Netflix already posses market domination with contract boundings over that already.

what big publishers have exclusive deals with itunes? Most music is pretty duplicated over the different distributors.

We're sort of bitching but not really bitching, especially with all the what-if scenarios that still need to be answered.
WEll at least it finally explains gabe bitching over windows 8.
Valve would have to redo large parts of Steam to make this not shit.
How shitty would it be if an application had to be run through your Steam account and nobody else in your family/house could use it? Sharing your account isn't always possible because of things like the friends list (e.g. not knowing if the person you want to talk to is the one at the computer). Or the fact that two PCs in the same house couldn't use the app at the same time.

I have the same problem with games too. I really wish steam didn't have drm.
This kind of software are pretty much the only things left being sold independently. Cynical me says that valve just wants a slice of the pie, but for whos benefit? Theirs?

Steam is DRM.

I'd love the shit out of steamflicks and steamtunes.
We're sort of bitching but not really bitching, especially with all the what-if scenarios that still need to be answered.
I don't really think they ever need to be answered. Valve isn't going out of business, and if Steam keeps up, they'll never have to worry about that. Valve makes more money per-capita than Google does. Steam is such a huge money maker that you'll never have to worry about it going out of business.
I really hate what-if questions that are pretty much impossible to happen. Oh, but what if it does happen. Well it won't, so I'll keep buying my games on Steam certain that I'll be able to keep on playing them for years to come.
I'm also sure they are going to work with the software developers, so Steam doesn't get in the way. Valve might be slow and pretty thick-headed with certain things, but they aren't stupid.

Whoa. I just realized since I'm still young I'll either see the end of Steam or see what it evolves into decades from now.
[sp]Or I'll die tomorrow.[/sp]
[sp]Took me four times to get that spoiler tagging correct[/sp]
So that's why Windows 8 is a catastrophe for Gabe Newell.
So that's why Windows 8 is a catastrophe for Gabe Newell.
What? Gabe's reasons on why is dislikes Win8 were very clear.
Valve are turning Steam into such a massive monopoly... it's actually a tiny bit concerning.
Multiplayer ms office
That's basically google documents. It's actually a lot of fun.
Valve are turning Steam into such a massive monopoly... it's actually a tiny bit concerning.
Except it's not a monopoly.
There are plenty of other digital distribution services out there for games and software, they all have a market share. Yes, Steam does have the largest market share for video games on PC, but that's because they provide a very good service and they're very active with the community. They are not a monopoly.

I don't think you know what a monopoly is.
