What is the story behind rage anyways?
Do not buy it. The game is BROKE. The graphics are ugly, I don't get what the fuck the hype was about "hyper textures" and I can barely maintain 10 fps on a computer. that can run the BF3 beta smoothly. Takes forever to download and decrypt for a giant kick to the nuts. Thanks John Carmack you fucking asshole. The entire game is fucking consolized to shit, also. Feels like a giant retarded broke tech demo.
I have zero issues running the game at a smooth 57-62FPS. [editline]4th October 2011[/editline] Ack, automerge.
So I played a bit of Rage... So far it's not really that great. The gameplay just has this stale feeling to it; and the gunplay is terrible. But that's just the first mission and a half, hopefully the rest of the game is better than its introductory mission.
I got this feeling from videos and all the other media released, it honestly didn't seem that good.
According to a review posted on Ars Technica the game is pretty poor. Not technologically, it's still a beautiful game, but it has some flaws:
So, just to sum up my nine plus hours with the game so far: No story to speak of No characters that make an impression Linear Broken save system Dull mechanics Tedious quests Weak shooting Stock weapons Racing is fun Minigames are enjoyable Very pretty
http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2011/10/rage-is-the-gamiest-game-that-ever-gamed.ars
I also try to stay way from overpriced PC games. That's bullshit, and will always be bullshit. I hear it stinks of a console-port, too. :/
I'm going to rent it. Hopefully I'll get there right as they're opening.
What is the story behind rage anyways?
From what I've gathered, you're one of the few survivors of the apocalypse. Then the devs came up with a linear series of quest to let you experience the world and the gameplay.

No story to speak of

There's a bit of a story so far. You're a survivor from an Ark and the Authority pays a hefty price for Ark survivors. For some reason some guy rescues you and you help him out and that's about as far as I've gotten so far. So I'd assume there would be some sort of show down with this Authority or something somewhere along the line. And how is the save system broken?
From what I've gathered, you're one of the few survivors of the apocalypse. Then the devs came up with a linear series of quest to let you experience the world and the gameplay.
That sounded like borderlands mixed with fall out
Rage sucks.
This must be a smart post to make in a thread about it being released :downs:
I might get it during the Steam Christmas sale when it'll no doubt be on sale for much less. From all the gameplay videos I've seen it really doesn't look like anything special and I'd mainly be interested in the idTech5 engine more than anything.
That sounded like borderlands mixed with fall out
Sounds so far like it took chunks out of Fallout's world and mixed it with Borderlands' gameplay. Just replace tons of guns with vehicle sections and technical problems (on the PC anyway). All in all it sounds like another Brink incident tho. But instead of multiplayer that can at least make for a decent experience if you can get good friends to play it, you get a 12-20h average linear grey/brown post-apocalypse quest chain. Ironically, as its eyecandy is regarded as Rage's strong point by a lot of people, graphics seem to be a major source of problems, especially for ATI users. Again, just what I picked up, I'm waiting for a decent Let's Play to get a view as objective and informative as you can without actually playing it.
Game owns so far. Gunplay is awesome, even if your gun animations are kinda weak feeling.
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2154150
Dear god, so much rage on SPUF. Kind of appropriate when you think about it.
...I also like how there is no option for vertical sync, and you can't even exit the game without opening command prompt because the "press start" menu was designed for consoles.
Oh god what the fuck id. This can't be real :v:

The game is very buggy I was on my first mission driving I hit a obstacle the vehicle spazzed out and exploded I had to start from the beginning :suicide:
A hilarious fact: RAGE doesnt have dynamic lightning, as John "god of gaming" carmack didnt see it as necessary.
A hilarious fact: RAGE doesnt have dynamic lightning, as John "goddess of gaming" carmack didnt see it as necessary.
Uh, I'm pretty sure it DOES have dynamic lightning. What you might refer to is that GLOBAL dynamic lightingh was not in the game (though it might be present in the id Tech 5 engine still) http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/images/11/jan/ragen1b.jpg http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/images/11/jan/ragen3b.jpg No dynamic lighting you say?
Uh, I'm pretty sure it DOES have dynamic lightning. What you might refer to is that GLOBAL dynamic lightingh was not in the game
Bingo.
John "goddess of gaming" carmack
What?
Bingo.
But for this game, global dynamic lighting is not needed either. It may still be in the engine, but it wasn't needed in this game, so why put it in there? The dynamic lighting that you all know and love is still there, as you can see, but the day-night cycle is not. I don't see why people cry about this.
Not buying because I'm tired of post-apocalyptic shooters
Not buying because I'm tired of post-apocalyptic shooters
The only ones are fallout and borderlands?
I played my friend's Xbox 360 version and it's exactly what I thought. Generic and stale FPS that doesn't even redeem itself with an interesting story or characters. I might one day be willing to buy it on a huge sale but I suggest to people not to pay a full $50 or $60 for this game. [editline]4th October 2011[/editline]
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2154150
Usually those forums are annoying and point out every damn game as a console port and bitch about it. Unfortunately they got lucky and are right on the money with this game.
The only ones are fallout and borderlands?
I don't recall Borderlands being something post apocalyptic?
I don't recall Borderlands being something post apocalyptic?
Technically no but that didn't stop it from looking exactly like it
