I last played this game when I was around eight and I'm still too afraid to touch it ever again. Game is fucking scary.
So I heard there was some crazy fan made patch that made this all amazing. Is this compatible? s
Its called the New Dark Patch. It should be already applied to the steam version.
Its called the New Dark Patch. So why do people dislike the Steam version then if they both have it?

theres a mod which makes the game like 50x harder. like hybrids hit like 20 or something dumb
Disregard my problems, I fixed them! In cam_ext, I changed "framerate_cap 100.0" to "framerate_cap 58".
Steam version is about 100x more broken than the GOG version.
lol why does this always happen? It seems like whenever an old game is released on Steam, it's guaranteed broken. Will this ever be fixed?

Always low on ammo Face to face with fear, so you can see the horrible face of the thing mauling you Extremely creepy place to run around in Or at least thats the feeling I got from the small trailer in the store.

I bought Deus Ex 1 and the fucker simply doesn't run well at all. Even after installing an unofficial fix, the game would make my computer's display fullbright until I restarted, and also did a myriad of other things. The game is also old as heck so I have to alt tab to read up on stuff, and you all know how much old games love alt tabbing. Atmosphere's great, enemies are creepy. Now I'm at a point where the cool soundtrack has just vanished. Only sounds I hear are the incoherent mumbling of hybrids, boots-on-metal, humming of computer fans, and.... [sp]monkeys[/sp].
Since it was patched up, it's not thaaaat bad, but it's still pretty iffy.
how exactly? like what is different from the gog release?
how exactly? like what is different from the gog release?
basing all of my problems off of what my friend's told me with is copy. when he launched up his gog copy, it ran right away and had no issues at all when i first launched mine, there was horrid screen tearing, and the audio didn't even work. might just be a problem with my system, but who knows? i've fixed the minor problems i've had so i redact what i said about it being an awful port also there's been some talking about the game not being compatible with a lot of mods, and co-op not functioning

II have not had any issues with the steam version
I want this so bad. I wish I had the money for it. :(
ive never played through this before, are the movement keys normally delayed? it takes like half a second for something to actually happen. my mouse movement is fine, but not walking movement. is there any way to fix this? i cant disable v-sync at all sorry if i sound stupid it just doesnt seem super responsive

Have you changed your keybindings to the FPS config or Koyla's config? If not you should try that.
Havin' a problem, no sound. Fuck.
How does the coop work? Is it the whole campaign?
How does the coop work? Is it the whole campaign?
Whole campaign yes.
Havin' a problem, no sound. Fuck.
Set sound device to OpenAL.
I have a problem. I'm too shit scared to get past the first hybrid encounter because they seem to appear from nowhere.
Oh man i flipped the fuck out when the camera spotted me and these creatures suddenly spawned behind me. And that was only the first part of the first level :( Also i just love that many elements of this game has been brought over to Bioshock. Wish they did a System Shock 3.
That's odd, everything works fine for me. Have you changed your keybindings to the FPS config or Koyla's config? If not you should try that.
wow thanks dude that worked! i dont think the game likes you chosing the normal config and screwing about with keys
Ok lets see... I got maybe 2 problems... During the intro, the last part of it, I only get a black screen after the introduction to the Von Braun and so on, but there is still sound of what looked like an audio log that gets cut short. Is it normal to be like that or should I be able to see anything at all? Also, my mouse acts up a bit. Sometimes, when looking for example at my feet, it goes faster than it would in any other direction. OH, and the main menu doesn't has any sounds. Is that normal? Also got no voices, no reload nor shooting sounds. And I think theres a gravity lift that also doesn't works.

Here http://www64.zippyshare.com/v/89847252/file.html That should fix everything, if you already got it, try turning vsync on, or off, depending on what its on now, force it through your GPU control panel.
See a monkey at the end of a corridor. I laugh. Suddenly it shoots me with something. I shit myself.
See a monkey at the end of a corridor. I laugh. Suddenly it shoots me with something. I shit myself.
Welcome to System Shock 2.

Still no dice... Can't hear any gun firing, can't hear reloading, can't hear anything in the main menu other than the speaker test on the options, can't even hear the voices for the switches at the tutorial part.

If that doesnt work then I have no idea. [editline]15th May 2013[/editline]
I have a problem. I'm too shit scared to get past the first hybrid encounter because they seem to appear from nowhere.
System Shock 2 has Dynamic enemies, its been a staple of the shock series up until Infinite honestly. I dont think the really big baddies respawn which you will find later, but everything else does, in random places. Not all are dynamic though, theres a lot of scripted ones, but there will always be enemies.
try re installing completely, then apply the newdark patch before playing. If that doesnt work then I have no idea.
It worked... ...Until I reversed the speakers and cranked up the volume in the options. The menu at least had sound, and I guess the rest of the game would have it aswell. Edit: Finally works! Not fiddling with the sounds so I don't have to reinstall everything again. Fuck yeah this is gonna be great! Edit2: aaaand I already got spooked at the "ghost" thing after getting the psi-amp... Lets play it another day :tinfoil:
