Minecrafting 1.7: the update that changed the world
Hey, people, how much time did you spend playing it in total?
It's probably a ton of time.
You know why you think it sucks now?
Because you got bored of it after playing it for so long.
If there was a timer to count how long you played in total most of you would probably be saying that it is well worth the investment.
I know that I spent a lot more time playing Minecraft than I did playing most of my other games on STEAM.
There are a lot of games that I have spent several hundred hours in and gotten bored of, yet I still play those games from time to time. Minecraft however, still remains to be a very dull game no matter how much time has passed, even with mods.
Holy shit I am having so much fun with these "Super Secret Settings" alone
I'm no fanboy though, but I may actually start playing this again.
The good part is that those are shaders - built in the game!
No more massive and slow to update shader mods, now more compatible and up-to-date ones :)
One of the things that slightly bothers me in MineCraft is the tiny draw-distance, the general feel of it would've been so much better if you could build a tower, or climb a mountain, and really appreciate the vast land beneath you.

With Drawdistance set to "Far", there's no fog, sure, but instead the landscape just suddenly ends.
if combat didn't rely solely on who can whack each other the fastest, then id be fine with it, but it still involves spam clicking instead of actual tactics.... just rush and spam click and hope you push them off something tall

also its annoying to see how little progress is made in the game, there are mods that add all this crazy shit, but they never seem to take any of those ideas to heart and include them or when they do they make them kinda crappy, like how flight was compared to zombe's mod flight.

Most of the reason for that is so your computer doesn't just up and die as it tries to render everything. Though, if you go out and make the chunks generate, and then come back to your starting point, it should render farther out, though it may take it some time to render the really far ones.
Oh, and Amplified world type is the best type. You get the old, crazy large mountains of the early minecraft, and you can also get some really odd miyazaki-esque style villages. Makes the regular terrain generation look really, really bland.
Still can't wait for the modding api to come out, its gonna be nice having everything be so stable and common, so you don't have to hunt for versions or not update.
The day Minecraft switches to UDP is the day I start playing it again

switch to netty wasn't that smart either

and I still don't understand the protocol encryption

Yeah for a sense of scale in that 1:1 disney world replica server you couldn't see the castle from the end of main street
Unfortunately it's just not feasible the way this game works

There are tactics you just prepare them before the fight not during (enchants and potions)
