• Whisper It: Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer “Co-Op”

I'm going to enjoy co-op with my bro and some friends. It's optional, it's not going to fucking ruin your 'atmosphere'
Before I get my panties in a knot, I'll wait for two things: -Confirmation of the rumor -How exactly such a thing would work/ what the idea is (as it says it wouldn't be oriented towards the main Mass Effect 3 plot). So chill the fuck out guys. It may be like Gears of War's horde mode (since they seem to be borrowing a lot from that).
If this is real that would be pretty cool. But last time I checked in the single player you could only have 2 other people with you. Hmmm.
Already saw it coming miles away. In the GI magazine that talked about ME3, they already stated they were thinking of some sort of multiplayer.
I don't get why people are so against this. It's separate from the main game apparently, so who cares. Don't want it then don't play it and just enjoy the SP game. I'm gonna enjoy both, though.
They want to include co-op? Fine. I'm sure there are people who will love it. I don't plan on playing the co-op, so as long as it doesn't interfere with the main story I'm fine with it.
Guys. It's a stand-alone story, calm the fuck down.
Yeah it's like people have forgotten how to read all of the sudden, fucking hell.

The problem for me is that IT IS standalone. Or rumored to be anyway. That would mean they are spending time on an aspect where if they would just stick with single player then all the time will have been spent on perfecting the single player experience.

Plus I think they have enough people working at Bioware that multitasking isn't out of the question. But hey, they can always just delay it again if lack of time becomes a real issue.

Why is everyone treating rumors like pure confirmation? Did anyone even read the article?
What cheat protection will this co-op have?
you guys are hilarious
Ugh Guys? You do know it's just optional right
Ugh Guys? You do know it's just optional right
why would someone intentionally avoid a part of the game that will likely take up a sizeable chunk of hours? "yeah, I bought this game for 60 bucks, but I'm only playing 20 of the 30 hours". the fact that they're actually separating it is what's frustrating to me, because if I want to get all of the lore / content (that's so critical in RPGS but ey fuck it ME is hardly an RPG anymore anyway it's just a 3rd person shooter) that means i'll have to do the co-op.
I don't get why people are so against this. It's separate from the main game apparently, so who cares. Don't want it then don't play it and just enjoy the SP game. I'm gonna enjoy both, though.
it's really because adding co-op to a primarily single player game changes the experience completely, and then creating a schism between the co-op and the sp as is done here is iffy when you're talking about a game that's meant to be taken seriously. (take this with a grain of salt i know it's a videogame lmao) this is going to be a pretentious argument but having coop in games like this can, in essence, harm the "artistic" nature of the game. Artistic games aren't games in the traditional sense - there's no true goal or competition, it's effectively interactive story telling. so when you add another person into the mix that does two things: absolutely kills suspension of disbelief, and then (in the case of ME) adds a (as per quoted in the article) "competitive flair" to the game. Adding a competitive flair to a game makes it a game, and trivializes it. they're by all means fucking fun, but a lot of people that get super into certain games - especially single player lore / analytic based games - get protective over shit like this. i kinda just go with it now because ME2 was a massive step down from ME1 in the first place, so that's expected. Same(ish) with Portal 2. It was great, it was fun, but it completely lacked the "oomph" of the first and the coop completely severed one of the most critical themes in Portal. basically ppl who take their fav games too seriously (>this guy<) get annoyed by dumb shit like this, but granted, we get annoyed by anything.
People getting butthurt because they are getting additional features that are optional? What has this world come to?
People getting butthurt because they are getting additional features that are optional? What has this world come to?
if you want to gain access to the content (which is what singleplayer gamers want to do) then it appears you need to play co op that means it's not exactly "optional" it'd be fine if it was a tacked on deathmatch but it's not, it's a supplemental co-op plot according to the article.
Well co-op did do well for Portal 2. So as long as they don't fuck it up, we should be fine. Although I was hoping for 3 player single player co-op. Because playing as Garrus would be pretty fineee.
Because certainly they aren't taking away time from developing the story/combat to add a multiplayer feature...
Because if they totally felt they wouldn't have enough time to get the story and combat done right they still would've started work on a multiplayer campaign anyways. and like i said earlier, they have enough employees to handle working on more than one thing at a time.
