Why a $150 'super slim' PS3 needs to release this year

For anyone who doesn't own one, the exclusives are well worth the price of the current models
If this was released I'd get one, I'm not really fucking with my xbox anymore at all
Yep I hate how steam makes me re-install directx/redist packages/framework even though I ALREADY HAVE THEM. Why not give intelligent users a option for that sheesh.
Read that.
Isn't $150 really cheap for an blu ray player ?
i don't think so any more
Isn't $150 really cheap for an blu ray player ?
Most blu ray player are like $70-$120.
Why don't they start by making it run like less of a fucking brick?
Or maybe stop updating it every 2 days with huge fucking updates that take hours to install.
I half expected a Kotaku article.

Um, they don't do that.
Anyway, this could be good news for me if this exists and releases soon. My 40GB Fat PS3 died after 5 years of service. And I don't really want to try and fix a YLoD myself without re-balling the chips

Oog and I have two working PS3's now, thanks to him our old big one. The yellow light is most often caused by a little area of solder wearing away. He put it upside down in a box, and put used a hairdryer on high, on it for a few minutes. After that it worked.
Um, they don't do that.
Every time I update either a game update, FW update, or PSN update hits me and I can't go near my PS3 for at least an hour.
Buying a 360 was the biggest mistake I've ever done when it comes to big investments. I barely play it anymore and paying yearly for online multiplayer isn't the best of deals.
I'm going to see if I can sell it plus the games. Hopefully I'll be lucky. And then I'll grab a used PS3 and get my Metal Gear fix. I don't know what are the most popular MP games there, though.
Or instead we can get out of this generation?
Storage size too little, I'm not buying it

Then put in a bigger HDD.
My sister wanted a PSP for her birthday last time, which is the first time I got into contact with consoles and stuff. Dear lord there's a customer-unfriendly number of versions available. Just give me the console that's cheapest and has what it takes to play the current games and strip the friggin gimmicks.
It's like PC gaming where you need to buy stuff, then make a Steam account, then download Steam, then activate on Steam, then install peripherals like the latest Direct X, then make a UbiSoft account, then launch uPlay, then update that, then update the game through uPlay, then log into uPlay, then set uPlay and Steam to offline, then start the game, then wait through unskippable intros #1-5 until you can finally be railroaded through the cutscenes and tutorials until you can really start.
No wonder people are so drawn to the simplicity of indie titles and gog.
Oh man, there are like 9 or so Ubisoft titles on steam, and you only have to make a account once. So what you have to download directx when you first install the game, can you not wait the extra 2 minutes. Why are you even setting steam and uplay to offline, so you cant get messaged by people? Anno 2070 is a ubisoft game and intros 1-3 or whatever all can be skipped. If your a PC gamer 9 times out of 10, you have a steam account already, and that also only has to be made once. Not like you have to make a steam account for everygame you buy, and really, it takes less then a minute to enter in a product key for a game.
pro tip- use the time waiting to refresh yourself, walk around the room, get something to drink, take that shit you have been putting off for 5 hours.
On topic, I think a even slimmer PS3 would be great, I already own a PS3 but i'm sure some people would love the lower price.

so uh...don't install them until you're done using the PS3?
If I could get a slim PS3 for $150 that would eventually be homebrew-able I'd buy one in a heartbeat
I had a nice and working MGS4 PS3 that I used for years and folded like mad on until the chipset started coming loose and the system began artifacting like mad. It was still in warranty when it started getting really bad but they wouldn't even offer a refurb fat. Featureless 120gb Slim or nothing so I watched my warranty expire and I still own the PS3 and use it for everything but PS3 games which you can't really use anymore due to the artifacting. I didn't have any faith in any of the newer PS3 consoles once they stripped both PS and PS2 compatibility.

Same here
The hell was I thinking...
so uh...don't install them until you're done using the PS3?
how do? You turn the fucking thing on and it goes lolupdate u best not turn this off motherfucker or you got urself a 300 dollar brick.
A budget model with only 16GB of space? That's a horrible idea. Most PS3 games REQUIRE to be installed and they take up quite some hefty space. This won't fly.

You don't play one console so you're going to sell it and buy another one for one game and MAYBE some MP games that are mostly on both systems anyways? To each his own I guess...
a $150 ps3 and $250 ipad mini? college life is looking pretty sweet next year, that is for the first few months until I turn 18, then I'll trade the ps3 and ipad for alcohol, and lots of it
it pays for itself when you get better more varied exclusives and free online
no really i think i play my ps3 maybe once every few months, i dont want to pay for monthly online on a thing that i play for <100 hours a year
You have a strange definition of "pays for itself".

I think the article is wrong on the space. I mean I have 20GB of space left, and I can only just install Sly Cooper 2. You wouldn't be able to download and install like half of the games on psn (especially the good ones).
PS3 died afew months ago, and it doesn't like the new hard drive I bought for it, been playing my dreamcast since

Better console anyways.

It doesn't force you to update before you can play. The only time it forces an update is if you're trying to connect to the PSN.
