4A Games defend Metro Redux pricing; "50% discount is more than fair"
I was one who thought it should have been free updates, but that was before I realized just how much went into remaking these games. If it were just a new watch, some animations, and some weapon fixes, then yea patch. But they remade some sequences, remade characters, added new rooms and some locations, and fleshed out some of the outside words. Redux looks awesome.
You offer an interesting view point. It may have been that 4A games needed to be more open and transparent about the work that went into it. It's likely that many gamers only really got a scope for it from the trailer that was released this week.
EDIT: Still though, I always fall back on the saying that "assumptions are the mother of all fuck ups".
I clearly don't mind it seeing as I pre-ordered it earlier today.
That feeling, when you got to check the game's out on steam to buy them. Wondering why you have the 50% off. Then realising you already own both the Metro games.... That feeling can't be beaten haha

Thing was it was the trailer that explained how much was changed. Before that trailer, all i knew from months was that 2033 just was on the LastLight iteration of the 4A engine and they implemented the LL gameplay. That's really all we knew. If we got a trailer showing some of the differences earlier, I think the overall consensus would have been better.
wow imagine if s.t.a.l.k.e.r. was remade to look like this
I'd gladly pay like, full price for this shit so I'll probably buy it for myself and get a gift copy for a friend.
They deserve every penny.
If I'm not mistaken they mostly use shaders instead of only textures to add detail.
Works really well and scales perfectly to higher resolutions too.
This makes me really want the upgrade, now. :v:
Good looking games made to look even better at a lower price then their originals, whats not to like?
I bought both games at full price when they first came out and I pre-ordered the Redux bundle. 50% off is a fucking bargain and I still would have happily paid more!
It's amazing how entitled some people can be.
For $12.50, it's definitely worth it
Not to mention, if such a massive fundamental restructuring were to be released in the form of a patch, it'd break everything.

It should come free and with a -75% permanent coupon on all of their games and I should get a free blowjob !

It would break nothing at all. It would simply replace everything that needs to be.

Yeah but let's be honest there's literally no reason to put that much effort into remastering two games for free. 4A Games may be a good company but they're not masochists, and I'm pretty sure they want to keep their company afloat.
I think people fail to realize doing these Remastered versions take time and more importantly take money.

Stitching maps together = deleting and replacing 2 or more while Maps with one. That's not a simple swap. Saves would be gone and probably some achievements due to some possible redesigns.
I'd be more than happy to pay for this. Totally worth it! The Metro games are fantastic.

You simply push an update that re-downloads the game. Saves shouldn't be much of a problem and achievements either unless they actually removed things that previously gave achievements.
There is no reason why it has to break anything. If they wanted to, they could always just release it separately as a stand alone update. Which is what they're doing already so I don't see what's the argument.
The argument is, an update (one as major as to change how the game functions structurally, graphically, and gameplay wise) would have to come free and for everyone, and the devs have to put food on their table.

I personally really like Metro 2033 for all it's little quirks and it's underlying version of the engine.
I think LL is a great improvement, but I still like to go back to 2033 from time to time and get more "raw" experience; and I think the original game should stay available.
If you haven't bought 2033 yet, it's going to be practically the same price: so you may as well get 2033 redux. And if you have you get 50% off! IMO it's win win.
these guys genuinely deserve every dollar they can get.
