Is this game even good? Might buy it if it's good.
Jesus, my brain broke just trying to comprehend this thread
Is this game even good? Might buy it if it's good.
It's good in bursts. Not the kind of game where you can play it for hours on end but the kind of game where you can play it for 20 minutes and think, "That was fun."Also really relaxing.
ARG for HL3. HL3 confirmed
steam is having a stroke

Audiosurf is not even worth money, it's dull and oversold\hyped. [editline]8th August 2013[/editline]
I like to stay productive on my lunchbreak :v:
The world needs more people like you ;)
I'll take 20
That's only 100% off. 200% off would make it be +4.99 (as in it gives you 4.99 and a game).
That's only 100% off. 200% off would make it be +4.99 (as in it gives you 4.99 and a game).
Since it is -$4.99 that means -$ for Valve, and positive $ for the customer. So although it doesn't say +$4.99, it is.
The problem is that a huge percentage of the people who play Audiosurf play exclusively Mono and its harder variants (herp derp ninja mono i'm so pro), which are dull, repetitive, and not satisfying at all. They're basically missing out on 90% of the game. The whole fun come from the other characters that are harder to master but much more satisfying (they also give much higher scores). It's better to see this game as a fast paced puzzle game with a musical background rather than a rhythm game (because really, it's definitely not a rhythm game). Playing as Mono basically comes down to playing a tile-maching puzzle game where all blocks are the same color. Which isn't particularly exciting if you ask me. The other characters have much more interesting mechanics. My personal favourite is Eraser, the amount of massive combos you can perform in a single song is just too good. On the subject of Audiosurf, I think I speak for everyone when I say where the fuck is Audiosurf Air?
If this doesn't sell the game to you, I don't know what will.
HALF-LIFE 3 CONFIRMED IT'S AN ARG, GUYS!!!
how is this not bannable yet every fucking steam thread, and every time anyone says anything about the number 3 or half life
Audiosurf was the shit when it first came out It's not really that amazing now but you guys gotta remember that this game first came out back when indie games were somewhat rare, and nobody ever made a game before that actually used your own music collection as a part of the game design mechanics. Now after its been out a while, there are several games that have been released that have done the "play your music" concept in arguably more interesting ways (that said, Audiosurf is still unique and interesting to play and is still fun), and there are a lot bigger+involving indie games out now too. That said its still worth playing. Most other generated-music games are all very action-based but audiosurf is very action-puzzle based, with a lot of interesting mechanics behind it.
audiosurf is a pretty fun game, i had fun with it for a little bit. kinda wore off after a while, though.

The dev has coding skills
It can be really difficult on elite difficulty with iron mode enabled. (Try Graeme Norgate's Venice for example, I can easily beat nearly any song on ninja mono iron mode yet I can only survive Venice about half the time.) And I think a good part of the appeal of Audiosurf is it's a really simple and fairly easy game, at least on mono like I play. It's more relaxing than most music based games. Edit: Actually that reminds me I have a recording of my high score on it.
I've always wanted to know the logic behind the placement and color of the blocks to me it just seems like random, not based on the music at all and you just get to select the background music
I've always wanted to know the logic behind the placement and color of the blocks to me it just seems like random, not based on the music at all and you just get to select the background music
I don't know how it works on non-Mono characters but the color on Mono only has to do with the speed of the track. More intense parts of the song translate to a faster track. Placement of the blocks has something to do with the beat of the song and a limit on how many blocks can be placed within a certain area.

steams gotta calm down with these deals!
Do explain :v:
For the most part the blocks are set up so that you can hit them reliably in sync with the beat/words, but it can be easily overlooked since few "cars" are meant to grab every block and everything gets nuts in really fast parts anyway. Try, say, using Vegas on American Pie by Don McLean for a nice example.
