It will be lame if every champion is available to you from the beginning. You definitely need an ability to work your way to the champions., anything else would be stupid for many reasons. Afterall, they need a way to make money. I would not mind if they went the same route as what Riot Games are doing.

I want to play whatever hero I'm interested in, whenever I want, without paying an outrageous amount of in-game currency (seriously, some LoL heroes are like 6500 IP, and don't get me started on the real money price) and investing unnecessary amounts of time into unlocking one hero. I like Heroes of Newerth because you could just put down a payment to get all heroes, forever, and everything else is pretty much cosmetic optional purchases that you can even buy with in-game currency. I would definitely be willing to pay $30 and get all League of Legends heroes, but unfortunately they don't let you do that.

Then they'll start releasing champions only in the "high price" area(6300 in League) forcing you to either spend money or farm for days to be able to buy a champion that you might not like and then 2 weeks later they come out with another "high price"(6300 in League) champion.
