It will probably go the way of WoW emulators where the first builds will be glitchy and incomplete as fuck and in a year or two will iron out a lot of the major glitches/bugs and add in most of the retail features but will still suffer from lag, bug, and incomplete features issues.

It took roughly 11 years for a near perfect emulator of EQ1 to come out (project 1999 is what it is called) so server based games generally take a while to fully crack if ever, just due to the amount of work needed to make it similar to the actual game.

And yet, when the servers finally close down for D3 because either Blizzard moved on or people stopped playing for whatever reason, the emulated ones will still be there.
See thats my primary beef with "always on DRM", when the servers finally close down... your game becomes useless. They can't be arsed to maintain the servers, so fine, NOBODY can play anymore.
Except the pirates, because they didn't want to put up with that shit so they made their own server.

You do realize that diablo 1 servers and SC1 servers are still up?
You do realize that diablo 1 servers and SC1 servers are still up?
You do realize that they don't require servers to operate, right?
You do realize that they don't require servers to operate, right?
You missed my point, blizzard still supports the battle.net for those old games.
And every other game so far, so nothing has yet to indicate that they will stop anytime soon.

And you're missing my point. Those two games you mentioned don't need the servers to still operate, therefore it does not matter if the servers stay up for all eternity or eventually die. Those two games don't have "always on DRM", they don't fit the argument anyway.

The fact that they're supporting games that don't even need it is really fuckign good evidence that Blizzard is going to keep these servers up for a long ass time.
Not to mention if they ever do turn them off, they'll likely ship a patch that allows offline play.

Those games were released in an era where Alwayson wasn't common, and in fact was simply not practical. Times obviously changed, the company has obviously changed. If they keep them around, cool.
And if they do release a patch for offline mode, cool, at least then blizzard looks to give a damn. Unfortunately I don't see that happening with they way they're treating offline content as it is.

Your "point" is terribly put together, basing your opinion on a highly hypothetical (and not to mention unlikely) situation.
It was mostly a snappy comment toward what he said in the first few pages.

What does my ban history have to do with your inability to realize that he might not be forming an opinion based entirely on an image?
Holy fuck ketchup. Seven pages of shit posting has got to be a record.
You must have missed the 14(Or was it 20?) page thread I posted in a few years ago about Blizzard banning people for cheating in Starcraft 2 "single player"... That is a wonderful read, I highly recommend it, if only to see how blatant the bandwagon of Blizzard hate can truly be.
And yet, when the servers finally close down for D3 because either Blizzard moved on or people stopped playing for whatever reason, the emulated ones will still be there.
Considering Diablo still has servers for it as far as I know, I don't see Blizzard suddenly dropping the game.

So if the games don't "need" the support for online servers, why are they still hosting them? Why don't they just drop them because they're not "needed" anymore?
What does my ban history have to do with your inability to realize that he might not be forming an opinion based entirely on an image?
I don't think ketchup would even touch Torchlight 2 with a 10 foot pole.
I doubt he even touched the first game, to be honest. Would be easier to check if he had linked his steam account, but if you're going on an assumption, I can also go on an assumption.
So, did I do anything to offend you? Beside your assumption that I'm a complete dumbass?

Excuse me, but getting banned for cheating in singleplayer is still a load of shit. Does everybody that disagree with Blizzard falls in the blizzard hate bandwagon? That's what you seem to imply here.
Considering Diablo still has servers for it as far as I know, I don't see Blizzard suddenly dropping the game.
Right now? of course not, it'd be really bad PR that they really don't want.
By "Need" I mean "the lack of servers for authentication makes the game completely and utterly useless as you cannot play without them, period"
For those two games, the online servers enhance the experience. For Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2, the online servers are the experience. That and they still have a shitton of people playing the oldies, and coupled with the above point.

So your argument against blizzard's decision to require online is that, "They will eventually shut down servers! No it doesn't count if a game from over a decade ago still has them up, they don't need them up anyway!"
You do realise how dumb that sounds don't you?
for all yall haters i played torchlight 1 and i have played the torchlight 2 closed beta
[img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/6kjFJ.png[/img_thumb]
i have made my opinions about torchlight off both of those experience and they are shit. sorry i dont get on my knees and worship some indie dev instead, blindly following them without giving any actual criticism because you put them on a pedastal as some sort of gods.
You do know that T2 is made by the original creators of diablo 1 and 2. So they aren't some indie dev.

who gives a shit
Uhhh
You can compaired LoL to DotA 2 since they are basically the same genre that involves the game gameplay style that both came from the same root game (DotA).
Just because one has a different ace up its sleeve compared to the other and just because the two are made by different companies doesn't mean they become uncomparable.
That's not the basis of my argument.
LoL and DotA 2 are the same in genre only. DotA 2 is geared towards hardcore players and LoL is geared toward casuals. Hence drawing comparisons between the two is stupid because the developers make plenty of different design choices.
Diablo 3 and Torchlight 2 are the same way. They're the same in genre only. It's like comparing two sports coupes, my completely stock Honda isn't going to outperform a Bugatti. But they're both sporty coupes so they're comparable right?
Give me a break.

The problem is that you treat everyone that dislike Diablo like shit.

Why should people buy from steam?
I mean once that goes under everyone loses their games right?
Why should people buy in physical media?
I mean once that physical media gets out of date it can become hard to get them or play them.
Both are similar arguments that depend on a situation that will happen in an indeterminate time in the future.

But Steam didn't make World of Warcraft...
Atleast Battle.net isn't Battlelog, that service that you have to use to play BF3 online. It just chose not to record two games, one where I ranked up and another where I got 50 kills amounting to 4 unlocks for a single weapon.
Oops.

that is the server hosts fault, not battelog, battlelog has some requirements in order for it to report so if the server has way too many tickets or something totally off the wall it won't record.

It's a ranked server that has counted for me before.
