Wait what?
The name has been origin for years. Before that "EA Downloader" And... that's it...
People that don't know shit will gladly bash on things for the sake of bashing it because they've heard it was bad so they think it's bad and just has to complain about completely irrelevant things for no reason whatsoever so they have something to complain about.
It runs better than steam though in my experience. I've also never had it crash or freeze, unlike steam.
I've never had Steam crash or freeze.
A interesting point to make is that Origin is/was not developed in-house.
Infact its built by a japanese/chinese company i'm sure.
origin at least doesn't wait until i want to play my new game to install directx and all that other bullshit
Valve has no choice, each game needs those specific files necessary to each game to run. Valve can only ship with Steam the ones needed to run their own games.

Origin automatically installs those during the game's download, why can't Steam do the same?
I've never had Steam directly crash or freeze up for long periods of time, but I have encountered COUNTLESS slowdowns. SO many moments where it takes like 30-40+ seconds to load a fucking page on the store or community. Uploading screenshots? Depending on Steam activity, they can just fail to upload completely. Every time there is a sale of some sort the Store goes down multiple times and every time a big game is added to the Workshop it goes down multiple times too.
For being the most popular digital-distribution service in the world for games, it sure seems like they're really cheapening out on server infrastructure.
Ah, long time to load pages, now that's an issue I know Steam all too well for. Hardly ever upload screenshots, so not experienced any problems there but I can imagine.
And yeah, Valve has a really weird problem handling their servers at times they know there will be a mass amount of people storming to it. But I kind of understand it since the Steam servers are stable on any normal usage where they have millions of people online at the time, spending a significantly higher amount of money each month just to avoid an hour or two of downtime that happens seldom in the big picture seems like a bad investment.
It runs about 500% better than Steam. Steam locked up on a purchase. Why ? That shouldn't happen. The whole Steam client has frequent lockups on high player count days when using the community or store. I've never had Origin lockup. It starts fast, runs well, doesn't have a ton of useless features, and doesn't eat my processor or RAM in the background.
origin doesn't have like 4-5 million users on it
origin doesn't have like 4-5 million users on it
the steam client shouldn't be locking up even if 3 billion people were using the service at once
I actually kind of like what EA's done with the new Origin interface. It still hangs on startup until it can load the little window telling me what I should buy today, but overall it's much better.
It's not Origin that is bad. It's just EA.
I don't understand what you guys are talking about when steam "locks up" maybe it just doesn't happen to me, the most it does is pause for about literally One Second as the community page loads or the store. You guys are making it seem like it freezes for 10 or 15 seconds.
9.0.... I remember the days when major version numbers meant something....
What the hell, you're using Firefox. They have a new version number every time they fix a bug.
Upon looking at the store preview image in the article. It reminds me of going to the pc section of Walmart. Just with less Warcraft expansions.
And more Sims 3 expansions. :v:
origin doesn't have like 4-5 million users on it
It does have about 2 million registered users from Battlefield 3 alone though. So I would assume the active online users are around 2 million since BF3 isn't the only Origin game out there.

i wish origin would just take CD keys for old EA games.
i just want them to be digital

there's a list of keys it will take somewhere.
As a distribution platform steam kicks origins ass. But as an application for viewing the steam store and your library, steam is fucking garbage. I never have delays or stutters with origin like I do with steam, not once has origin stopped responding. Steam really needs an overhaul starting with getting rid of the embeded browser.
I don't understand how there is so much shit talking about origin when it runs better, uses less resources and has less issues than steam.

Okay so I just updated to the preview version of 9.0. They fucked up everything that was working fine.
The games library has slow ass transition effects everywhere that you have to wait for in order to get to game options. They removed list view for no reason. The storefront is still horrible. Searching the storefront still shows irrelevant games. There is a huge delay when opening things like your friend list and settings windows.
On the plus side memory usage is down even more.

I don't really have any problems with Origin, the only thing I don't like are the shiny buttons.

They're like Jolly Ranchers that I don't want to click.

That's because it does!
It may not happen with your client, but it certainly happens with mine.
