Hilarious that you'd accept in your mind that a cable is worth $40 though, instead of seeking alternatives.
HDMI cables are a huge culprit :v:

I thought he went back to it. And still, he created it and the company, that seems like something he should have heard about.
Reading text in GTA4 was hell on a sdtv

I'm about to drop 1k on a gaming computer, it really doesn't matter anymore.

HDMI is HDMI, signal will either get to it's destination or not.

This is what your screen would look like in 2 player split screen mode. It looks playable, but not like it would be a whole lot of fun.
Doesn't the xbox just upscale to full hd with a hardware chip? I do understand this choice, played MGS4 on a SD tv and the hud wasn't readable unless you were sitting 30 centimeter from your tv. Also weird that Notch didn't know about this, seems pretty important.
Notch doesn't even develop Minecraft itself anymore, let alone the port.
If you dont have a HDTV and its 2012, you should definitely get one
They should still have the option. Especially since consoles are things you bring places to play with friends so you might not always have an hdtv around.
HD tvs are cheap as hell now, if you can't afford to save up for the cheapest one you probably should stop paying for your internet connection and any other unnecessary stuff.
I mean hell, you could probably find a working one on Ebay or something for $50.
Many people actually don't notice the difference in quality between standard and HD.
I find this dumb, not all SDTV's are 4:3, mine is a 32" 16:9 CRT widescreen beast. It could easily do split screen in multiplayer.
Surely its up to the players whether they want to put up with small text on an SD TV
You'd be surprised. We still have quite a few people who come into the store looking for standard S-AV cables because they still have SDTV.

Yes, beucase HDTV's are so expensive.

(These are the cheapest ones, from 4 of the biggest electronics retailers over here, so I doubt those smaller businesses will be any cheaper)
And sure, you could buy them second-hand, but first of all the prices will (on an auction) always grow to the point you might as well actually buy a new TV. And if you do get a cheap one second-hand, you can't always trust it'll be in its best condition.
Buying one outside of the country is not an option either because the import tax will be ridiculously high, it'll likely get stuck in the toll and it has a higher chance of breaking during transport.
I don't understand how this works but why would an HDTV make a difference?
I don't understand how this works but why would an HDTV make a difference?
Resolution.
You can't fit 2-4 instances of the Minecraft UI in a 640x480 resolution and expect it to be legible.
How exactly are you proposing someone connects a bog-standard VGA cable to their Xbox? Oh right, via an Xbox to VGA cable, the official version happening to cost around forty dollars.
I'd hardly call that someone inventing numbers.
Sorry, I don't own an Xbox and just assumed he just needed a vga cable. Still, could get the cable for $5. The quality might be debatable though.
If nothing else this thread has shown me how out of touch some FPer's are.
HD TVs in that price range that I've seen look pretty crappy, defeating the purpose of it being HD. For a good picture, you have to begin shelling out serious money.
(Though to be fair, most display TVs at stores like wal-mart look bad because they split the same signal over dozens of TVs.)

Congratulations, you fell for the biggest scam in the electronics industry.

Yeah, the TVs obviously won't be on par with something worth thousands of dollars, but again, claiming you need to drop $1000 for an HD is wrong. He could spend anywhere between a huge range to actually get a TV. If he needs a TV then he can do it cheaply.

Still not sure that, even if you could do it cheaply, means that you should.
