What's so bad about Origin? The only thing I don't like about it is the fact that it splits my game collection between it and Steam, which isn't all that bad.
Uh, it spies on your system so it can sell the information they get to third parties and they charge absolutely outrageous amounts of money for their products.
And DICE has still not fixed the constant crashes, awful lag, magic disappearing HUD syndrome and insanely long load times. EA promised us that the transition from the browser to the game would be quick. Instead, we have been force fed a fucking Facebook clone with shit like the "like" button replaced with "Hooah!". What the fuck.
I have had the game since before Christmas and from Day 1 I have had these problems. The update that caused all these problems came in late November. The last time I checked there were dozens of pages complaining about how the game had become broken. Customer support gives pasted advice that makes you run around in circles doing things that change nothing.

As for the first part, they do not spy on your system. I know what clause of the ToS you're referring to, and I know for a fact that Steam has that same clause, albeit rephrased a bit, as well.
As for the second one, Battlelog isn't all that bad, but I completely agree with the horrible lack of post-release support. Thankfully, the next patch is really huge and does a lot of weapons balances and shit loads of other fixes, plus some new VOs and a new Commo-rose, but when that is coming out is completely unknown. Could be another month. Could be another year, really. In that respect, I do not blame you at all for hating DICE/EA.

Steam does indeed have a similar ToS, only that searches nothing but the Steam folder if I remember correctly.
I don't think it's that bad compared to the older games. It's definitely not like BF2 and it's not really like 2142, either. DICE seems to be moving Battlefield from a more large-scale vehicular-based approach, to a more "jack-of-all-trades" type game that features both CQB and larger-scaled classic Battlefield combat. Because of that, it has an even split of more classic Battlefield gameplay with huge maps and long distance combat (Caspian; Kharg; Firestorm; Noshashr kind of; all the B2K maps; and, more likely than not, the Armored Kill maps coming out in about six months, which are completely vehicular based) and a more CQB approach on others, with more infantry focus instead of vehicular focus (Bazaar, Metro, Seine, and all the Close Quarters DLC maps, plus Tehran kind of). It is heavily dependent on which gamemode you play and what map you're playing it on. For example, SQDM and TDM are much more infantry based than Rush and most definitely Conquest.
Basically, the game tries to cater to all types of combat in different way, so if you like more classic Battlefield, stick with the larger maps. If you want a break from that and want some CQB, then go for one of the smaller maps. It is definitely worth the only $36 they're charging for it now.
The game is quite obviously dumbed down in order to cater to an unspoken audience. Fans having to scream for a currently broken commo-rose to the removal of commander to the butchering of squads so that teamwork is hardly promoted, the game really doesn't deserve to call itself Battlefield.
This is just the opinion of one frustrated Battlefield 2142 player, though.
