lower the damn memory card prices $100 for 32gb is fucking insane
Which compared to $170~ for a 3ds XL with a game out of the box (plus it accepts standard SD cards) is the reason why no one is buying it. [editline]10th January 2013[/editline]
I'm getting tired of people ripping on the Vita for the same reasons all the time. And I'd just like to address a few of them now. -Vita is too expensive Compared to the similarly priced 3DS, I'd say not really. Just comparing the Hardware, Vita can do a whole lot more then the 3DS can do on it's own. I use my Vita all the time as a media device and watch movies, Youtube, Netflix, listen to music, and other shit. The only lack luster tech in the Vita are the two cameras, which are meant more for AR gaming anyway. If you're interested in a phone, I could see why investing in any hand held would seem overpriced, but for people just interested in getting a dedicated hand held for gaming, I'd say Vita is priced pretty well, in the US at least. -Vita has no games This is the one I find most dubious. Vita already has a sizable amount of games worth playing. I get that the point is Vita doesn't have a ton of exclusive games at the moment, but not everyone needs to have exclusives. Exclusively, you have great games like Golden Abyss, Gravity Rush, and Little Big Planet Vita which are phenomenal games I'd say are must buys for any Vita owner. Then you have great ports, Multiplatform titles and new editions of games like Persona 4 Golden, Playstation All-Stars, Metal Gear Solid Collection, Mortal Kombat, Rayman Origins, Disgaea 3, and plenty more (Just listing off the ones I've played and own). Then you have PSN titles for Vita like Stranger's Wrath, Sound Shapes, and Escape Plan, not to mention the library of PSP and PS1 titles on PSN. -Vita Games are expensive Compared to games on the App store maybe, but what a fucking surprise. The average Vita game costs $40 USD, the same cost of a 3DS game. You get more for what you pay on both platforms. Then Sony is being generous enough with their Cross Buy Iniatitive, where buying the PS3 version gets you a free downloadable version of the Vita game, and introducing PlayStation Plus to Vita (Being Subscribed now pretty much gets you the best exclusives for Vita free). The biggest problems Sony is facing with the Vita is that the memory cards are a fucking joke, and turns away alot of prospective purchasers with hidden fees. That and the lack of third party support, which they won't get unless people buy the Vita, which people won't until it gets more games. It's sort of a terrible cycle that Sony has to break if they want Vita to take off; but I think Sony could pull it off and make Vita as much of a success as it's predecessor. But seriously, Sony, lower the price of the System and start packing a memory stick with the system OR cut the prices on the memory cards and maybe more reluctant people will hop on and garner the system more third party support. Won't hapen ever. Custom Firmware was awesome on PSP, but I don't think I had purchased more then like 4-5 games because of it. Sure it sold PSP's, but it did very little to sell PSP games outside Japan.
You can get a 3ds XL for 170 bucks, and that includes mario kart or 3d land. last I checked, a vita is 250 bucks. The 3ds has a much larger game library, and also has access to the DS game library... which is HUGE. There are also tons of NES/gameboy games on the eshop for 3ds, as well as eshop exclusive games. Although vita can access the psp game library, that library is comparatively tiny. A brand new vita game is 45-50 bucks. a brand new 3ds game is 30-40.
TBH, I'd love giving them my money if their SDKs were free for non-commercial use, but NOOO, Homebrew is EVIL.

There's no UMD compatibility and no way to transfer physical PSP games to a digital format to be placed on the Vita. AKA, you have to buy every PSP game you want on your Vita again.

The regular 3DS now goes for $169USD. I still think if you're willing to invest in either system, the $50 difference wouldn't make or break someone, but the hidden fees of the memory card sure do. Sony should definitely start packing Golden Abyss and a memory stick with each Vita to compete. Nintendo does have a bigger library of titles, but all I'm saying is that Vita's current library isn't as pathetic as some seem to think. Also, average price of a Vita game is $40 USD. There've only been two Vita games that retailed for $50, Uncharted Golden Abyss and Call of Duty Black Ops Declassified, which is hardly the norm. There've been more games that retailed on Vita for less then $40, and the new Sly Cooper Thieves in time will sell for $30 on Vita (But getting the PS3 version for $40 is ideal since it has cross-buy).
AKA, you have to buy every PSP game you want on your Vita again.
I don't hold it against them too much, since the only way around that would have been to include a UMD drive for Vita, which would have been a colossal mistake. I know that the passport system existed in Japan, but I think only certain games qualified. Still, there's no denying that being unable to play your library of PSP games is a downer compared to the 3DS. Really though, I know I come off as a fanboy of Vita, and I readily admit it. I want to see this thing take off, because I've always loved handheld gaming, and if Vita's performance doesn't improve in the next 2-3 years, we probably won't be seeing Sony invest in the hand held scene in the next generation. It's not so much that I'm angry at people not wanting to buy it, because there are plenty of reasons for the disinterest and hesitation, I'm more mad that Sony seems to be doing nothing to warrant further interest in the device. Just because a few people are satisfied with their purchase doesn't mean anyone else is just going to change their minds, and they have to react and change their game plan with Vita. If Sony doesn't focus more heavily on Vita this E3, Vita will be fucked again for 2013, which it really can't afford given how awesome 3DS is doing this year.
Yeah it's really annoying. It has a bunch of great titles, it's a solid platform, just that nobody really wants one because it doesn't have titles people want now. The new MH is on the 3DS and a lot of good Vita games are parts of series that exist on other platforms and simply aren't worth it for a lot of people. And since it's not selling, developers aren't targeting it, and because there aren't an abundance of great games, nobody's buying it.
