The AI in Thief was decent at best, I've had plenty of instances where I've been chased and literally had to slip into a shadow in the corner of a hall the guard was running down and he'd completely ignore me as he walked by.
Thats deliberate though, at least with regular guards, that is what the light gem is for.
AI changes when its mages/pagans/hammerites/mechanists and that type of stuff doesnt always work, especially hard/expert.
Plus this new Thief doesnt even have the complex sound mechanics, earlier the guy did some loud ass shit and the guard right next to him didnt even move.
In Thief 1/2 how loud and far a noise was changed what behavior enemy AI would use, and every surface had a different loudness/sound range for all this.
So this new Thief is missing like 1 of the main mechanics that Thief is built around lol.
This new game seems to just be based on two steps when it comes to sound : loud or not, end of story. If you walk on a puddle of water or glass then it's loud, anything else is considered silent.
Kind of a big stepback from the other games where stepping on a carpet instead of planks of wood would actually make a difference.
i got a free copy of thief from the amd radeon silver reward thing so i'm not complaining before i play the game.
I don't even care about sound or AI, because they've stripped out almost everything that made the setting unique and atmospheric.
In the level he's in at the moment, the guards have said "I'm not so sure about this" about a dozen times if not more.
"I will seek you out ! I will seek you out ! I will seek yo-there's no one here. Keep a look at the shadows just in case :downs:"

your vendetta against this game is impressive, did it murder your family or something?
this ai issue has been with the thief series since forever - jump onto a table in thief 1/2 with the ai chasing you and they'll just sorta fart around and then run away screaming. you can tell how a game is made by how it breaks, and thief breaks in a lot of interesting ways.
While I do agree with you, you gotta consider that Thief 1 and 2 are both over decade old, so you'd reckon the AI would be way more advanced than in them.
TBH, I probably won't be buying the game at least until it's 50% (or more) off, since it just doesn't seem like it holds up to the original series (plus I'm not really liking the changes to Garrett, and the lack of pagans and hammerites and stuff. And especially the lack of Stephen Russell). Plus, I've already got The Dark Mod for all my thieving and sneaking needs.
This Dishonored DLC sure looks cool
This Dishonored DLC sure looks cool
It would be shitty Dishonored DLC, the actual Dishonored DLC is good.
It looks like a better version of Dishonored with a better focus on stealth.
I hope so. I have never played a "stealth" game easier than Dishonored in my life. When I heard it was inspired by Thief I got excited. Not making that same mistake twice.
Was watching a streamer play a leaked xbox version of it.
Its really REALLY fucking bad.
Way worse than I thought.
Heres the streamer.

First thing I see when I go in is an animated takedown à la Deus Ex.
Come oooon. Whatever happened to the blackjack?

It's in there. You can also disable all possible takedowns using the difficulty modifiers.

Oh, cool.
Ech, I might've given it a try had it a demo but I don't feel like hocking up $50 for something I gather to be a flawed experience in comparison to the older games
I'm not sure that it will be that good. Deadly Shadows wasn't a very good game and it looks like it's taking similar cues from that game, but as long as it's better than Dishonored, I could dig it. (Then again, most things are better than Dishonored, so it's basically a given that it will be better than that excuse for a sleepwalking simulator.)

Yes it was. It wasn't prefect by any means but it was quite fun and ya know, ya felt like a fuckin thief.
I felt like buggy mcbroken pants, the buggiest superhero who ever lived.

And this was after mods and patches. That game was a real test in patience.

I will grant that if it wasn't so buggy it would have been a decent game. I just don't like being forced to save scum out of fear of a bug happening at literally any moment. The first few levels I had to replay several times because they kept bugging out before I started abusing quicksaves. It ruined an otherwise good experience with truly outstanding moments.
Just found out you can get this for $36 at GreenManGaming with this code OQE4LG-WEQPSE-SMCME1

You mean not playing another game inspired by Thief? Well you're certainly safe there.

Never really encountered any game breaking bugs myself so I don't know what to tell you.
I know what he means, every now and then in Deadly Shadows if you jumped or fell you'd be stuck in the falling animation unable to do anything but slide around, really. This was sometimes in your favor because you made no noise. If you found a ledge and slid off of that you would land on your feet and be on your way.
It didn't happen to me very much so it never ruined the experience thankfully but I'm well aware of what he's talking about.

You are lucky.
It was a fucking mess to get even get working on my computer a few years ago.
Its pretty buggy and sadly held back by fucking loading areas and the "open" world city gets really repetitive towards the middle/end since its so empty and factions seemed completely unfinished and worthless.
Still its a really solid Thief game, especially when it comes to the missions.

This one: O61269-BIMBGU-JRDM3J gets you it for 25% off instead of that 20% code you provided.

It happened to me several times per level. Mostly because the mounting mechanic was really glitchy and didn't always trigger, making me stuck in the sliding pose.
Though to be fair, towards the end of the game I discovered that if I switched to the bow and drew the arrow, and then holstered it again, it would fix the sliding animation.
