So these map packs can be called expansions because they are cheaper? I'm not saying the content is necessarily unvaluable, I'm saying that going "Battlefield 3 has FIVE EXPANSION PACKS" is rather misleading.
Honestly it seems like you are just splitting hairs over the technical definition of the word expansion.
They each expand the content of the game more than just a new skin or weapons, they are expansion packs in every sense of the word. Pricing does not matter, you can sell expansions for $5 and they are still expansions. The comparison is SF is twice the price and has arou d twice the content. Not that the price defines the status of a pack.
Wasn't Back to Karkand announced before BF3 was released?
But it was free if you got the game before limited edition sold out, which took about 4 months
Special forces had 8 maps, each Battlefield 3/4 pack has 5.
Each BF3 pack has 4 maps, not 5.
Well, depending on where you live. The game costs about $60 USD, digital. Retail, it's probably near $65(not sure of american tax rates), but in Canada it's around $70 CAN after taxes. Then add on your "Battlefield Premium" which will cost $50.
So lets do math!
$60(Digital US+CAN) + $50 = $110
$65(Retail US) + $50 = $115
$70(Retail CAN) + $50 = $120
I'm not sure of Euros, but I'm sure it's still expensive. Basically, you're paying the same price for two AAA games. For this game plus it's season pass, if you buy the season pass, completely optional. But you'll miss out on content, weapons, maps, that other players will have and you cannot unlock.
Eur to USD usually translates 1:1 for game releases. Which would put you up roughly 135USd for the whole thing.

Oops I keep getting the number of expansions and the number of maps mixed up :v:
Pretty much every game since 2010 has had pre-order DLC/bonuses so I don't know why people are acting surprised.
I'm not surprised, it just sucks a lot of dick and always has

It sucks dick you get small bonuses or a free expansion for investing in an unreleased game?
What wonderful leaps of logic were required to think this?
Biggest problem for me is the way they advertise it. I'd want to be excited for BF4 as a completely new, somewhat open experience, where I don't know what to expect.
But now I'm being told all the DLCs, their themes and so on. Especially annoying is that it already has a clear End game-equivalent last DLC.
The BF4 content span has already been closed AND ADVERTISED, before we're even able to unlock the first base game gun.
For me the devs can have BF5 already ready to ship for all I care, they just don't have to tell me about it. I'd rather play for a while obliviously, not having a list of content and release dates for everything.
