Its the fact they find it necessary to give you a thompson in the first place, as if a sniper would run around with it 'just in case'. If a sniper needs a smg just in case he gets caught or keeps giving himself away then he probably isn't doing his job correctly. I thought the game was going to have realism to it, that's all. Having played the demo and finding out its not then its just not my thing so I'll probably buy it when it goes on sale for some arcade fun.
Look up the deadliest sniper. That [del]Norwegian[/del] Finnish guy. He carried a submachine gun around with him
Its not because you've failed, its because some situations necessitate using a submachine gun rather than a sniper
Like, oh i dont know, close range.

Simo Häyhä, 505 kills in under 100 days. He was shot in the face and put into a coma. The day he woke up was the day the Winter War ended. And he was Finnish.

He attained about 200 of those with his submachine gun if I'm not mistaken

Actually the 505 was just sniper kills, he had over 200 SMG kills additional to that, racking up over 730 kills overall. He wasn't called the White Death for nothing.
Wish it supported DirectX9. Wonder if the final game will support additional features not in the demo? Curious to see. Always thought part of Sniper Elite's charm was its unobtrusive visuals. They 'just worked' and kept you focused on the action, which was great...
Upgrade to Windows 7 then and stop being such a dinosaur.
Clearly the problem in this game is the difficulty. Its too hard to blow a dudes balls up.
Even if you suck at it, it's still fun
I demand bullet cam on EVERY shot

No thanks, everything's just fine for me as it is. A smattering of games with artifical limitations aren't going to force me to change to something I don't want or need... Maybe once those new consoles come out and (hopefully) more and more titles start requiring a cruddy new OS to handle the ports we'll be receiving...

Yes. I just played this today and I cannot stop playing it. So fun.
Its weird because its almost an arcade type genre.. not really a hardcore game
you're doing something wrong
It's just the PC community having low standards for controls.
I think people saying the full game won't be very linear are just being very optimistic. Which is fine of course.
I don't really mind if it's as linear as the demo though. I found the demo's gameplay fun enough that I would buy it either way.

Holy shit, makes me rethink how easily obtained kills are in modern games, I always thought on average during a war one person would get 1 kill or none at all.
So my plans on May 4th.
Head to theater, watch the Avengers, head to Moneymart, put money on credit card, go home and install + play.
Can't wait.

Firstly, the limitations aren't that artificial. The reasons why DirectX version are restricted to certain OS's is more than just because they can do it, there are changes in the OS at a level you don't notice or interact with, the newer versions of DX tend to actually take advantage of these, and making it backwards compatible isn't always an option. For example Vista and 7 introduced a new driver model, XP doesn't support this, and adding support would involve kernel level changes, which has a chance of breaking things that rely on that older version.
Secondly, and this is my most important point, XP is fucking ancient today, there is no reason to be on it any more unless your PC is genuinely that old, there is literally no reason to not upgrade outside of computing power (7 can run on almost any XP capable machine), or money (7 is going to drop in price soon thanks to Win8). I expect some of the reasons that games today aren't all using DX10/11 is because of people who are sitting on older OS's would restrict the possible users, and that most developers just don't want to migrate technology this "early" when such a wide range of systems support what they use (including the XBox).

"Steam Servers are Busy"
Every time.
You may be thinking of Sniper: Ghost Warrior, which was an awful game and is also getting a sequel. Sniper Elite was kind of a cult hit.
Ah, indeed.
Haha!
I'm playing this right now on the hardest difficulty, this is so fucking fun.
all i'm saying here is i tried the game out thinking it was a realism stealth game and was wrong from what i played of it.
Just like me actually. I still liked it tho.
The tagline for this game should be "Say auf wiedersehen to your Nazi balls."
I keep trying to start the demo;
It goes up for about a nanosecond(VERY short) and then just closes without doing anything.

Or something absolutely godawful like 'they will nazi you coming'.
