Sure, he's a bio engineered super child soldier but he stood out as the luckiest out of all of them. It's such an interesting little quirk of his/cortanas relationship and the series does it really well. They never abused his luck, so it was believable. Just when it mattered, pure dumb luck kept him from dying. Then at the end of Halo 3, it runs out, and it's just a fitting end.
Wow I'm glad I never got past 1/4th of the game. What happened?
[sp] Cortana turns into a bridge and kills herself, I'm not even joking[/sp]
You[sp] meet the Librarian and she tells you that she engineered ALL of Humanity so that the growth of generation after generation will result in a single person, the Chief, being born with the ability to resist the big bad's evil weapon.[/sp] Spoiler tagged even though nobody in their right mind should give a shit.

i literally cannot handle how retarded that is jesus christ like they spent literally the whole motherfucking series establishing that he's just really really lucky and then suddenly nope its JESUS woohoo
I could stand Halo 4's plot, even though it was really bland, but this, this right here is a damn disgrace. I mean really, the intro to Halo 3 is why Cortana chose the Chief, because he had something no one else did, luck. But nope, he's just a Forerunner engineering, nothing the player or the Chief did was really freewill. Another thing that bothered me about this "engineering" load of crap was how humanity didn't get where they did because they were naturally smart, managing to beat the Covenant ages older than them with Forerunner tech, but because that's how they were "designed". Everything that made them better than the Covenant was gone because really it was none of their doing, just the Forerunners apparently. Good job 343, throwing a wrecking ball at those important pieces of plot. I wish Bungie hadn't left, they knew how to make a good Halo, it really didn't feel like it was finished. The only good thing about 343 is that they can't hurt Bungies old games, only make new bad ones with the extremely small chance of spitting out a good one.
GIANT ROBOT BIRDS Yea, halo is in good hands [sp]It's not ;_; [/sp]
At that point 343 should of just made a new IP
Reading this thread has made me sad, I'm very sad now.

I also remember that the majority of them ended up killed or crippled and deformed when they got thyroid implants
My brother is a big fan of bungie and he skipped over Halo 4, so I tried showing him the campaign once. After the [sp]librarian[/sp] scene he said something along the lines of the game riding a shark that jumped another shark that then preceded to explode, or something, he then refused to watch the game any further.
[sp] Cortana turns into a bridge and kills herself, I'm not even joking[/sp]
That ending scene was so goddamn awful, it's insulting.
New creative director? Maybe he's creative enough to give me the option for a centered crosshair.
The spartan 2's weren't just children, weren't they also kidnapped.
They were kidnapped (usually around 6 years old) and replaced with clones that were "programmed" to die within a short time to make people avoid looking into their disappearance. Pretty much their entire life was military training and UNSC indoctrination.
lol
Is that the fucking rock from the Lion King? Is chief gonna stand at the top and hold his gun into the air or something?
Did you know that people actively defend 343 and Halo 4's horrid game play over at the waypoint forums? I remember the days were people used to post on Bungie.net asking for killstreaks, sprint, and perks. They used to get flamed so hard. How times have changed.
Also, what's the Didact's problem with humanity anyways? Anyone knows?
Also, what's the Didact's problem with humanity anyways? Anyone knows?
Even if they clearly explained it in the game (WHICH I SINCERELY DOUBT), he was so plain uninteresting I frankly don't remember and don't give a shit.
Also, what's the Didact's problem with humanity anyways? Anyone knows?
Humanity was going to take his job. Not joking.
In my head the last piece of halo canon is chief and Cortana drifting out into space. Nothing else. P
In my head the last piece of halo canon is chief and Cortana drifting out into space. Nothing else. P
Absolutely this. Halo 3, even with its kind of nonsensical story, was a perfect bookend to the Halo trilogy. I can't think of a way to end it better. Plus, the Chief's "Wake me, when you need me," and the Aribiter's "Were it so easy," were such badass and fantastic ways to sum up Master Chief after 3 Halo games.

They were just put with the families their donor was kidnapped from, so a missing child wouldn't be investigated, a death was just a side effect that didn't affect the plan.

When they are a part they are two sides of humanity, Chief the physical side and Cortana the emotion, together they make a complete person. There's no romance involved only friendship. They also completely missed Master Chief's character development. He would never try to regain his humanity or pounder if he's a machine. At the end of Halo 3 he understand's what he is, his final words are "Wake me, when you need me". He understands he's a weapon to be used by Humanity in it's greatest need.
Also the fact that pre halo 4 lore was fucking fantastic now its all literally pewpew space majiggy. [editline]16th January 2014[/editline] Like. What made halo a success was that it was literally unique in its art style. ODST is a fucking masterpiece in regards to music and design.
Also, what's the Didact's problem with humanity anyways? Now the whole Galaxy is on my ass. I think the Dick-Dact is stupid villain. Also, why could the Didact not use the Halo and threaten Humanity and the covenant into submission by holding the Galaxy hostage? threaten the entire Galaxy he would activate all the Halos if EVERYONE don't give him dosh or make him the King of everything. Wait, maybe i may have predict the next plot for Halo 5.

The Chief DID have a soft spot for Cortana. It wasn't in any way how 343 interpreted it, but he did have some form of attachment to her. Regardless of the type of relationship they had her loss would definitely have a large impact on the Chief.
