bruh prices for Australians were fucked before the refund policy was ever a thing.

G2A; ripping off developers
If they're the kind of developers that charge Australians more despite using the same currency on the store I find it hard to feel bad about them getting ripped off. If I lived in Australia and wanted to buy something like Hotline Miami where the price is the same between the U.S. and Australia I'd buy it from Steam, but if we were talking about something like Civilization 6 where it's $10 more (prior to tax) I'd feel no shame or guilt in buying from G2A.

Valid resellers with deals are still a thing though
I buy ubisoft games from gamesplanet uk and save like twenty bucks.
They are a valid reseller, so it's not even evil
Just wondering, are there others on here that don't have to pay taxes for Steam games?
Quite a few. I never have.

I don't think I have.
So they should be.
We never had to pay GST on Steam purchases (nor most online purchases anywhere), because GST used to not apply for online purchases with a value below $1,000. That meant that online retailers had an unfair advantage over brick and mortar retailers, the latter of who were forced to charge GST. The government recognised this problem, and they only recently rectified it by updating the tax legislation. We're now seeing that updated legislation come into effect, to even-out the playing field.

I don't even know why people still shop on Steam. Most games out there are actually cheaper at brick and mortar stores like Kmart or Big W, despite the cost of the disc and case, those retailers having to charge GST, and accounting for higher overhead costs because of physical distribution.

Probably because going out to a store is less convenient when you can just buy a game on steam with 5 clicks.
Australia keeps getting shafted in the accessibility department and the government wonders why piracy is so rampant here
What a fucking joke

If you want to be lazy, JB Hifi lets you buy online with $1.70 shipping and it's just as easy and generally cheaper. Sure you probably won't be getting most indie games there, but they aren't the problem games on Steam, AAA titles are.
Already high prices aside, I'm really surprised you guys were able to go this long without having to pay any taxes for online purchases. Over here we've been paying it for as long as I can remember.

yeah, I bought bf1 on release day at target, it was actually quite cheap at $60
It was 90 at both and competing retailers have it now at like 80

Indiana here, never taxed.
I think only Washington does in the US, due to being based in Seattle. Only one I've heard about
