Saints Row 4 not a reworked 'Dominatrix,' Volition says
Earlier games were also harder to develop in certain aspects. Today's hardware gives us a lot of clock cycles and RAM, developers can get lazy without noticing issues thanks to that. We overuse memory, waste a cycle here or there, but the game still looks great.
A PS1 era, or even PS2 era game, doesn't have that luxury, the hardware lives little room to get lazy, making developing a playable game a lot harder. Not counting the lack of SDKs for commercial engines and common APIs between platforms.
yeah and today the only platforms that don't have massive hardware overhead is consoles, and with the specs the PS4 is rockin' that will change
I am all in for sequels that add onto the additional game such as Saints Row 2, but this looks like they just made 1 new npc type (aliens) and a few more superpowers
The city in the trailer is almost exactly the same, the npcs are the same and the vehicles are exactly same (even the signs on them say "SR3")
I am not saying that the game is going to be bad, I am actually really looking forward to it. I just don't like how they are denying that it is basically a large expansion pack
honestly i dont know what to think of this game
i want the gang sort of stuff from sr2 and the fun of sr3 and i aint to sure about being the president of the united fuckin states and aliens n shit

Im sorta optimistic.
SR2 had the same thing happen.

Its probably an over elaborate tie in to Red Faction.
Because they share canon.

RF: Red Faction remake reboot confirmed.
It just doesn't look good/different enough to be entitled Saints Row 4 to me. It looks like it could be crazy fun, but it's the name that bugs me.

Ehhh, wait until more trailers come out before you say that, we've only seen a teaser, after all.
it seems like this may turn out to be what left 4 dead 2 is to left 4 dead, which isn't necessarily a bad thing

Does that mean two years after release, SR4 is going to consume SR3 into itself and feed upon its organ juices to create SR4+3?
hopefully they'll make it so there's something to do once you're done with the story missions
once you were done in sr3, there was no incentive to do anything and nothing cool to look at and nowhere cool to explore.

I spent a shitload of time just fucking around, having fights with cops and all the gangs after I finished the game, the fact that the gangs were actually varied and interesting in terms of how you fought them made out of mission action so much more fun and varied than it ever could have been in SR2, where all you were fighting was just dudes with guns that run/drive at you.
Just dudes with guns? Did you even play through the story?
The gangs in SR2 where interesting, while the ones in SR3 are just bland and boring.
That's not even close to a enough time to make a proper sequel, it's going to be rehashed garbage.
5 months before release is practically the final stage for games like this, there's no time left to make major changes unless you want them to be rushed and awful.
Ever since the Portal 2 thread back in 2011 you've made nothing but dumb posts.
Dude, SR2 was made in the same allotted time as SR4 and that was a proper sequel. FFS.

Actually, SR2 started development in 2005.
But, keep in mind, volition confirmed before SR3 was released that they were working on SR4.

2005? But SR1 wasn't even released until August 2006. And I heard that SR2 was greenlit sometime in late 2006.

I'd assume they'd be able to start development once development of the previous game goes down to bug fixes.

Yeah but you're forgetting that SR was a new IP at the time. I doubt THQ would have thrown money for a sequel if SR1 wasn't even released. You wouldn't fund a sequel to a game if you didn't know whether it'd be successful or not.

Well yeah, but i dont think they were doing full on development, they maybe started concepts and some models at the time, incase it was.

There was also that 2 month post-launch period they were developing a patch to fix the unplayable lag issues in SR1.

you only mentioned a single thing you can do after beating the story: shooting dudes on the street.
there's no secret weapons, no secret CDs, no interesting easter eggs, barely any activities or diversions, and NO cool places to fuck around in.
SR4+3?
Can't wait for SR7

I'm not talking about the story, I'm talking about the gameplay, you fought all of the gangs exactly the same in SR2 since they all used the same tactics and had the same type of soldiers, the gangs in SR3 each had their own unique soldiers and specialists and you fought each of them in different ways. It doesn't really matter if they each have interesting characters and act different in cutscenes when as soon as you have to actually physically fight them, they're all exactly the same and only look different.

the special enemies? you mean the huge guys with the bare hands, miniguns, or flamethrowers that were LITERALLY copy-paste because they were clones? or the decker schoolgirls with the swords?
that's all i can think of.
[editline]23rd March 2013[/editline]
i can't think of any unique soldiers besides that. they all use the same guns and shit half the time so they're the same to fight

The Luchadore's Grenadiers and the Morning Star's Snipers
Or maybe Volition could make Freespace 3
Of-course we're gonna see the content that what was Enter the Dominatrix re-allocated into SR4's content, but that doesn't make the game in it's entirety the cut SR3 DLC. Everyone saying otherwise is just being silly.

That's still more than what SR2 had which all just "dudes with guns that run/drive at you".
This whole thing really looks like the bankrupt of THQ and the purchase of volition by another company pushed them to release a full game instead of a dlc to catch up to the losses.

No, they had decided to merge Enter the Dominatrix into SR4 way before THQ had shut down.
How is not creating a whole new fucking engine for a game make it copy and pasted? New Vegas was almost identical to Fallout 3 but it was still better in almost every way.
