GTAIV was very memorable for the great storyline and great cutscenes, as well as the great gameplay.
The only thing memorable in SR2 were the cutscenes (some of them were really awesome). The story was boring, the gameplay was dull as fuck and felt like a game from 2005, the graphics were horrible and so were the physics.
Good and and enjoyable gameplay makes a game far more memorable than just a bunch of random things you can do which all feel like chore due to the painfully boring gameplay.
I've never played SR1 or 2, but this game looks amazing. I'm definitely picking this one up.

This game is going to rock, just like the previous two did. I don't have the patience for gritty games that you have to take seriously anymore. I don't like role-playing anymore, managing stats is as boring as my job is, and I can't be expected to just run and gun for 20 hours either, also big set pieces and gorgeous graphics don't have any effect on me anymore. Saints Row is entertaining first and foremost, and doesn't depend on any one of the above mechanics too heavily. It doesn't even matter how batty it is, that's just icing on the cake, as long as the underlying gameplay formula is the same, it will rule.

GTA IV didn't "stay with me" because I came in expecting a fun sandbox game but there was nothing really sandboxy about it. Missions would keep me entertained but I couldn't fuck around the city like in SR2 without getting bored within 5 minutes.
