i don't always like to say linux is really open, or any OS in that matter, there's got to be something that you want to change but can't
actually you can change practically everything within Linux with enough effort proprietary software is another discussion [editline]6th March 2013[/editline]
I think it's the whole openness thing that sets it apart. A "normal" PC OS, giving you full control over the file system and ability to install any PC applications and use PC peripherals, makes it more of a PC than a console in my opinion.
They're not gonna market it as a PC, people hear PC and think of having to set everything up, as compared to a console which is pretty much PnP.
Actually, Gabe was talking about their gamepads. NOT the console. Look at the video at 1.20. It was already said that Bigfoot won't arrive anywhere in 2013. But strangely every site talks about Bigfoot. What the fuck is going on. Doesn't anyone look at the goddamn video?
why do people pretend the steambox isn't a console just because it's being associated with a PC game developer? a console is basically just a plug and play gaming computer with some peripherals. the steambox is no more of a "hybrid" than the other consoles
Because Bigfoot is an open PC. You can install Linux or Windows on it. You could even install Photoshop on it and use your gamepad for it.
;39811936']As much as I like valve, I don't see this being successful. If people want a PC they will buy a PC, if they want a console, they will buy a console.
How is this going to fail? As far as i can tell, it's just a normal pc in a smaller form factor.
Before anyone asks, because someone always asks: No you do not have to buy all your games again. However, you will have to wait for your favorite games to be ported to Linux, since the Steam Box will obviously be running a Linux-based system.
You can install windows on it, if you are going to attempt to educate everyone in the thread it helps if you actually understand what you are talking about.
"Left For Dead"

That's true, but that doesn't make what I wrote any less true. Regardless, I'll edit my post to reflect on this.
