2142 on frostbite would be so amazing. I miss titan mode.
Good, I fucking hated 2142. I spit on it, and refuse to recognize it as a legitimate part of the Battlefield series.
Good, I fucking hated 2142. I spit on it, and refuse to recognize it as a legitimate part of the Battlefield series.
Why? Because it was the first re-imagining of the series to something new? Other than the lag issues with Titans, BF2142 was great. It was the first game that streamlined the classes and made the reward/promotion system much more achievable. Don't you remember having to grind for BF2 unlocks? I sure as hell did.
He sounds like one of those people that wouldn't play it because HURR DURR NOT MODIRN WHARF AIR BF2 4 LYFE TACTICAL GRENADE SPAM ERRYDAY
1943 wasn't garbage, I'd buy the shit out of it if it was on PC.
the game was more akin to battlefield heroes than it was to battlefield 1942.

I'd be okay with them making a 2143 kind of game, like BC2 Vietnam or whatnot i just want stompy mechs [editline]21st April 2013[/editline]
Call of duty is like modern pop music, it doesn't matter what its about its marketed at idiots that don't know there's anything better. That's why so little changes, they know its gonna sell like crazy so they don't bother putting much effort out on the content.
But BlOps 2 was actually pretty goddamn hype and imho was worth every cent but i guess you're right, i just don't know what's best for myself
I was extremely late to the 2142 party, popped in a while ago but I had a hard time "figuring it out" and there are only a few, half-empty servers. Which is a shame because it technically appears very similar to BF2, which I've clocked over 150 hours in.
I got the deluxe edition but didn't grab my northern strike key from the website you're supposed to get it from or something, and now the site's dead.
The last patch for it included the expansion pack, didnt it?
I find it funny that everyone wants a 2142 sequel. It sold poorly because all the bf2 playerbase ditched it claiming it was a cheap bf2 future reskin.
Why did you hate it?
Because BF2 was the first game ever to carry the exact mood and vibe that I wanted in a war game. It was the perfect balance between realism and fun to play. 2142 was garbage to me, you can all like it, and I'd even prefer that you DO like it.. I'm just saying I didn't. The whole robots future thing didn't appeal to me, and still doesn't. I never said anything like that at all...
You may not have worded it like that but it's basically what you just said. Having hatred for 2142/calling it garbage is very different from simply disliking it because of the setting, and just wouldn't even make sense considering how gameplay wise they play almost identically with the only large differences being thematic in nature. The only differences mechanically is that 2142 is basically BF2 with slightly improved movement mechanics, changes in animation, a refined squad and commanding system, and some slightly different tech (ironically enough BF2142 was criticized for its tech being too similar to modern technology), etc. You are of course allowed to not like it, but saying you spit on it and refuse to acknowledge it as a legitimate battlefield title just because of a thematic change makes absolutely no sense and is downright ridiculous, and implies something much heavier then it not being something you prefer.
damn, I remember flying up onto those ships and fucking shit up. mmm
I find it funny that everyone wants a 2142 sequel. Balance and mechanics wise it was actually one of the better in the series though.
The sound design in 2142 was also shitloads better than in 2
Speaking of 2142, I fucking LOVE its theme.
Yeah it caught a lot of flak for that, the ingame advertising, and DRM. Instead of having this giant mess of classes in BF2, putting everything together made the gameplay much more compact. I hated having to wait to flag someone down just to do something for me, just because mutual teamwork on a pub is something hard to come by. In BF2142, everyone had a role and they (usually) did it well because of how convenient it was.

I'd love to see Titan running on Frostbite The way it was set up on the old engine didn't work too good; a finite number of entrances with generic corridors on the way to the core. Frostbite would be neat because you'd be able to incorporate mechanics like blasting through the side of the hull to get inside, or rappelling down the site and plasma cutting a hole
The last patch for it included the expansion pack, didnt it?
Honestly I have no idea. I didn't see anything related to NS last time I played [couple months ago]
Do people still play online? I've always wanted to try 2142 and have been thinking about getting it.
Do people still play online? I've always wanted to try 2142 and have been thinking about getting it.
I think there are a few servers that have people. If you do end up getting it and your AV program picks up a spyware or adware thing, to just ignore it because its harmless AFAIK.

Well we did have a thread where we were going to play the older Battlefields and discuss them and stuff but it died pretty quick.
I really hope, though...
I'm sorry to reply to a 3 day old post, but what's stopping us from doing it? Think about it, here on facepunch, we have masterful map makers, wonderful modelers, and a whole bunch of talented animators. Why couldn't we make our own game that is just as good as those original games?

The only projects I've seen to completion are the collaborated albums produced by the music section because there is minimal interaction required. Every time there's been a community attempt at anything else, it's pretty much failed. The mapping section is full of examples of this. They just never progress well enough. So an entire game is out of the question, there'd be too many people wanting to get involved, all with vastly different ideas of how the game should play.
