• Payday 2 makes changes to its microtransaction model, but the community isn't happy

I just gave up on this game, and any future games they might make. Yes, I own most DLCs, but even i saw that it was getting more and more bullshit.
IMO it's terrible. I wonder if there's a mod that disables all weapon skins clientside, that would be nice.
Do you mean PD2? Yeah just turn off high quality models in the game options. Don't need a mod. [editline]24th October 2015[/editline] I'm still playing the game. This doesn't bother me, I just won't spend any money on the drills or safes.
Do you mean PD2? Yeah just turn off high quality models in the game options. Don't need a mod.
Nah, CS:GO.
Overkill blew it, they had a really good game and a fun community (most of the time) and then they had to put in those microtransaction's. They literally had it figured out, till that.
https://www.reddit.com/r/paydaytheheist/comments/3q53ms/crimefest_is_over_ama_discussion_with_almir_on/ They've somehow managed to blow the stump off of their hip.
They just added meme masks + jumping animations as the final, big reward. This is also known as "putting the final nail in the coffin". What a terrible developer.
If that was the final nail, then the AMA that followed was the funeral. Almir's greatest hits:
Stats won't be removed from skins.

We believe it isn't Pay-2-Win, as we balance the game around the base game, not on any DLC you might own or any stat boost you might have.

This is why we didn't want to discuss this with anyone - not even the press or media, who were very keen to get "the first scoop". We thought - and still think - that this is a great addition to the game. We have a system that everyone can participate in, where players can earn actual money while playing PAYDAY 2. If you don't want to purchase anything, that's completely fine, as you can just sell what you get and continue focusing on the core experience of PAYDAY 2. Meanwhile, the added funds allow us to continue making the game better and better all the time.

While the general sentiment here in the subreddit has been negative towards microtransactions, the numbers speak a different language. Players seem to be loving it. Will they feel the same in a month? Six months? We don't know. We'll do our best making PAYDAY 2 as interesting as possible during that time, while constantly reviewing the feedback.

We understand that there is a lot of fury, anger and disappointment with us adding this. From an economical standpoint however, completely based on statistics, we can already see that the Black Market update is working as we intended. Going forward, we hope we can convince the parts of the community that resist this change that this was the right decision to do to ensure the stability of OVERKILL as an independent developer and the future growth of PAYDAY 2.
Can you even customize your safehouse yet or do you just grind the few high paying heists forever?
Jesus they just refuse to acknowledge the sheer number of people who were pissed off by this. Can't believe I once respected these asshats.
Ensure the future growth of the game? Aren't the sales from the DLC funding the next one?
Ensure the future growth of the game? Aren't the sales from the DLC funding the next one?
They actually have a really funny business cycle with Starbreeze. Short version since I don't want to type it out again.: Starbreeze AB is funding about 7 other games for various studios, has a bunch of license deals (merchandise, John Wick, music and likenesses), poured millions into StarVR (which does sound impressive), bought a BRAND NEW GAME ENGINE (Valhalla) with a few cold millions, and are also paying the salaries for all the people working on these things, as well as their own personal salaries etc. Not to mention benefits like healthcare and insurance. Where is all that money coming from..? PAYDAY 2. Solely. It's literally the ONLY product under Starbreeze right now making them consistent cash! THE. ONLY. THING. From a business standpoint, let's use the legal term to describe it, which it is "fucking insane." There are, of course, stocks and investors, but PAYDAY 2 is the only product sporting them funds and investors etc. OVERKILL simply got the order from Starbreeze to find a way to make more steady cash out of PD2, since DLC's stopped selling as well (most people had them and the leftovers waited for sales, free keys, or plain didn't buy them). So, in general; don't hate OVERKILL. Hate Starbreeze for getting too ambitious and putting insane amounts of pressure on a single title.
