If this actually happens I'm quitting TF2.
THAT's your reason to quit TF2?
Really? Not the economy, the trading, the obsession with hats, the hat promotions, the increasing performance issues and the decreasing lack of fun, among other problems?

I don't think that the amount of fun increasing would be a reason to quit.
I don't see why you guys hate TF2. I don't play it religiously, maybe once a week, but I love it.
They can't really be making this much money from the store, can they? Enough microtransactions to warrant F2P?
I don't think that the amount of fun increasing would be a reason to quit.
whatever, i said it wrong, who cares
This is how is think its gonna turn out
In with Whiny 12 year olds.
Out with the Glorious PC gaming race.
If this actually happens I'm quitting TF2.
i already quit
I don't get the butthurtness over all the new shit. I think it's interesting. Although it DOES get annoying with people constantly whoring over their hat collection.
If they make TF2 F2P they should make it so you have to have at least one game purchased on Steam or something. That would cut down on hackers a bit.
It's either:
A bullshit rumour
A F2P week, or even a month, just to see how new players react, and what they could improve on.
Probably a rumour.
everyone can get anything it's just luck
this is what everyone who doesn't like microtransactions in TF2 doesn't understand
Goodbye Valve.
so just because one game goes free to play you lose hope on all valve?
who gives a shit anyway, it would expand TF2's playerbase and VAC would keep out the hackers, and if you feel like your being "ripped off", just dont play TF2. besides i dont see it being F2P for awhile.
I don't see how that "proof" proves anything.
If this actually happens I'm quitting TF2.
Quitting over a different application? Dude quit over something else. Quitting cause they made a F2P version of TF2 is a bit dramatic.
You know, because Team Fortress 2 isn't exactly a good example of a class-based shooter at the moment.
The day TF2 stops being a fun game is the day Activision and EA simultaneously redeem themselves in the public eye and start releasing quality, innovative games with original, unique selling points.
I know people who are just as upset about the updates and the Mann Co. thing as you people evidently are and still sink hundreds of hours into the game. For the love of crap people cosmetics do not make a game any less fun. The weapons are another matter entirely but honestly all they really do is encourage different styles of play, adding that extra layer of unpredictability to an already wildly unpredictable game. In all honesty I play TF2 more often now than I ever did pre-class updates.
It's just a fucking RUMOR, based on SPECULATIONS.
NOTHING official, so therefore NOTHING to be worried about.

I do play more often too, I never saw the reason to quit playing just because there are hats...
What game was it that started the microtransaction model? Wasn't it Guild Wars?
If I remember correctly they only added in the store after a couple years of Guild Wars being released when they couldn't sustain the servers with sales alone. Thankfully they only added things like extra character slots and storage panes.
But I think those various F2P Korean games started the microtransactions trend.
Most games with cash shops are free, anyway. TF2 is like a free to play game that isn't actually free.
i just brought it for a friend, fuck.
If it becomes Free 2 Play, I may play it again because some people I know will download it.
Well if it does go F2P, i want my money back.
lol just disproved
It's a free-to-play week this week.
Free To Play TF2:

What does limited TF2.exe mean?

Not really you just don't make a whole new Steam entry for a free weekend.
I don't see what's the fuss about TF2 with hats, maps, weapons and shit. It's just adding content to keep it alive, not destroy the game. Its core gameplay is still there, I play it and I doubt it would be any different from vanilla.
I found it funny that everyone in this thread who opposed making TF2 F2P said "ok F2P guys can get no hats or trading or shit" is giving us not hats or trading really supposed to be a bad thing, it's not like I wasn't going to play it if it was F2P because I can't wear a funny hat on my head or go into a server trading instead of playing.
TF2 is fucked anyway, who cares.

It seems like the more content they add, they more ill-fitting and gimmicky crap they shove in. Now that I think of it, it probably wasn't all that great of a game to begin with if they needed so much content to keep it going.
Now that I think of it, it probably wasn't all that great of a game to begin with if they needed so much content to keep it going.
You might as well say any game that receive frequent content updates aren't that great in the first place.
that takes the fun of finding weapons out of the game
The drop system is not "fun". It's precisely why I stopped playing TF2. I'm not putting hours upon hours into a game I don't enjoy anymore just for a relatively small amount of gameplay-changing content, especially when I have to spend those hours getting killed by people with backpacks 3 times the size of mine.

Yes, I too remember what the trailers looked like.
I've invested a very large amount of time and money in this game. FUUUCK.
