I really don't know how a Portal movie would work out. Portals are fun because they let you run around in interesting ways, and the puzzle-solving is a lot of fun when you do it. However, watching people teleport or solve puzzles is (at face value, anyway) not as exciting. If you make a prequel (with Ratman and GLaDOS) that would be interesting but it wouldn't really be Portal. Also I'm already bracing myself for terrible cake jokes

I believe that Half Life has the lore to support a movie but please don't follow Gordon
I'd rather watch a movie with Adrian Shepherd or Barney Calhoun in it than one with Gordon Freeman.
Makeup can cover up wrinkles. [editline]7th February 2013[/editline] Also, by the time of Half-Life 2, he is technically in his 40s-50s.
He was taken out of time between the events of Half Life and HL2. [editline]7th February 2013[/editline]
15 minutes TF2 film is on the way.
I think TF2 would make a great animated TV series, but not a movie.
I thought a film featuring Barney, Adrian, and Gordon would be an interesting dynamic if done properly.
I'd rather watch a movie with Adrian Shepherd or Barney Calhoun in it than one with Gordon Freeman.
Sadly in the Hollywood realm it sounds like a scenario we've seen quite a few times before. Futuristic research facility, experiment goes to tits, monsters invade and someone has to shoot their way out. They'd need to pull something really special to make it non-generic.
This is pretty funny to me, I just can't stop imagining any movie in HL universe as some low budget youtube short with visible after effects cgi and ingame models :v:
I really kinda want to see a movie about Rattman's descent into madness
I really kinda want to see a movie about Rattman's descent into madness
Damn, that would actually be quite awesome. An examination of Rattman's role from the beginning of GLADOS' involvement in the facility through her going rogue and unleashing chaos, culminating in Rattman's struggle against GLADOS and his own insanity to prepare chell for her eventual awakening.
Wait a second, just think of the possibilities here. None of the valve games have ever been made into an official film of any sort. Yet so many other games have been made into films and even tv shows. If this plays out well, directors might finally realise why previous 'game to film' endevours have failed so bad.
Seeing as Valve is Collaborating with Abrams on this movie project, more than likely it's going to be made in SFM
HL1 would be a great story for a movie. [editline]8th February 2013[/editline]
Ryan Gosling it'll be Drive but with a goatee
this so much
It doesn't have to be made into anything. Why do so many of you want the possibility of these projects going the way of DOOM? Or I don't know. Hopefully with Gabe looking over it they'll be able to accomplish what no one else has been able to so far (an actually good movie directly based off of a videogame). But i'm worried about him getting screwed over in the long run.
Apart from two Superman movies, comic book movies were absolutely horrible for the longest time (look up the old Captain America movies) but in the last decade or so it really stepped up. I don't see how a video game movie is inherently doomed. [editline]7th February 2013[/editline]
I really kinda want to see a movie about Rattman's descent into madness
You've read Lab Rat, right? Something like that would be cool.
Why do video games ever turn into movies It's like the worst transition that could happen (User was banned for this post ("Dumb bump" - Swebonny))
They could do Half Life 2 in the perspective of a resistance member and you only see Gordon for a few scenes and in background shots.
Absolutely this. Make him a background character or don't even show him, just reference him.
Morgan Freeman as Eli Vance
Why do video games ever turn into movies It's like the worst transition that could happen
Why would you bump this? Actually, how did you even find this thread?
Why would you bump this? Actually, how did you even find this thread?
He probably saw it in the Popular Threads page and assumed it was a new thread.
I dunno if it's just me but if they did a movie about half life I'd love to see something about the seven hour war, although it could just come out as a typical alien invasion movie
Gilbert Gottfried as Father Grigori
So, there is this list of video game movie adaptations. While I haven't seen them all, it's pretty much a list of disappointment. And Mr. Abrams is stepping up and saying he wants to be on that list. Both Portal and Half-Life have pages on imdb (updated 13 March 2014) I really enjoyed the games, but feel sorta "meh" about the idea of a static experience with them.
the movie should be entirely focused on the life of times of Griggs and Sheckley [t]http://i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac48/Nirwrath/GS.jpg[/t] A story of comedy and tragedy.
Valve hasn't accepted it yet, and I doubt they will since they probably want to keep it in-house.
Are you kidding me. J J Abrams and Gabe were talking about potential movies at a Keynote last year.
Unless the movie contains Gordon firing grenades at the floor in order to jump boost and having bunny hop everywhere, I will be disappointed.
Speedrun movie
and they will call it half life 3
The only reason Gordon is silent is so that the player can place himself in the game. If they made a movie, Gordon will talk. With Valve's writing and Abrams's directing skills, I'm VERY interested in what movie comes out of it, be it Portal or Half Life. And to a larger extent I'm interested in the game that Abrams and Valve are apparently talking about making. [editline]6th February 2013[/editline] Odds are a Half Life movie would explain what went on between Half Life 1 and 2. I would VERY much like to see a movie that focuses on right after Half Life 1 and then at the end introduces the Combine invasion but doesn't go into it. After HL1 and before the Combine is very untouched territory, and it'd be cool to see what they could come up with.
I've never really felt like I was "in the game" so to speak. Felt more like a guy in a "awake" coma where I wasn't in control of my body.
edit: oi it's an old thread, fuck off
