The best PC game is Gone Home
The absolute BEST PC EXCLUSIVE VIDEO GAME THIS YEAR, IS FUCKING GONE HOME.
I can see that they were trying to "reach out to the indie game community" but fuck me is this the entirely wrong way of doing it.
Kind of surprised Injustice: GAU won best fighting game. I mean it's good but it was mostly so popular because of DC hype.
But if Gone Home won best PC game then I don't even think I should be caring about any of these awards.

It probably won not because of the mechanics, though it fights good, its probably one of the weaker ones out of the lineup when it comes down to purely the fighting, but because of the 'meat', you know, the story and like 500 side mission mini game challenges.
Gone Home for best PC game. Wow. My mind is fucking blown.
I never really took this seriously before, but still, wow.
Character of the Year: The Lutece Twins (BioShock Infinite)
Nothing wrong with that, IMO. They were pretty good.
The Stanley parable is an infinitely better wander-around-and-look-at-things game
Fuck you gone home
Most of the PC exclusives are indie games. What was the last big AAA exclusive for PC anyway?
Shadow Warrior 2013
Like the fact you can finish it in 2 minutes?
"This game is too linear! 0/10!"
"This game is so non-linear that if you know how to you can beat it in 2 minutes! 0/10"
Jesus fucking Christ. The game has a good number of problems but the ability to beat it very quickly (with previous knowledge, there's a tiny tiny chance you'll beat it like that with luck) is not one of them.
This seriously baffles me.
3 of the nominations were also taken directly from the indie nominations aside from Battlefield 4. Meanwhile on xbox and ps3 the only exclusive there is the last of us.
A joke.
I seriously wish the Last of US won the game of the year award but GTA V is equally good in terms of gameplay and storyline.
GTAV was pretty much guaranteed GOTY, which is kind of a shame (I'd rather have more games like Last of Us than GTA), but given the sheer amount of craftsmanship and talent in GTAV, this is probably one of those times where both games equally deserve it. I think Last of Us had a better narrative though.
Dota 2 is not a 2013 game
It was forever in beta until July 2013, when it uh...
released
so yeah I guess it is.
Why is the Best Xbox Game Brothers A Tale of Two Sons when it's also out on PS3 and PC?
Hey, guys who've posted in this thread about why Gone Home won? Wanna know why Gone Home won?
Well, y'know how you're complaining, and thus talking about their stupid fucking award show on their terrible trailer-trash channel?
That's why Gone Home won.
Why is the Best Xbox Game Brothers A Tale of Two Sons when it's also out on PS3 and PC?
It was exclusive for two weeks....guess that has to count, right? Funny how the new Gears Of War didn't even get a mention when it was one of the only xbox exclusives this year.
Why does it feel like they just gave "awards" to the games that made the most headlines without any attention paid to the actual quality of the games?
You can't expect a show like this not to be bribed or just plain biased.
The show itself was hilarious, the other host just didn't give a fuck and the Doritos pope just tried to damage control as much as he could.
Its just sad to see that you cant even trust gaming journalism anymore
Im happy for Blood Dragon (because it was probably the only DLC this year i can remember thoroughly enjoying every second of.), but Bioshock Infinite didn't deserve to be where it was. Same with Gone Home, fantastic story and moving even (atmosphere as someone said above but opinions will be.) but i don't think it deserved the top title at all.
Gone Home is a million times more interesting than any video game about shooting people with guns that has been released in the past +10 years.
Best Action Adventure Game: Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag
Can't say much about it since I haven't played it but, isn't there better adventure games? People really got pissed about this.
It still boggles my mind how MGRR didnt even get nominated for best soundtrack.

Too bad that The Stanley Parable is a better game.
There are many more games that could have been nominated.
Lame List.
I don't even know anymore.

We've kinda learned by now that the VGA/VGX just give "best soundtrack" to the game with the most licensed music.

The Stanely Parable is also a cool and interesting new use of the medium I just think Gone Home is better vv
and it's not any more of a traditional game than Gone Home is so I don't know why only one elicits cries of "walking simulator"

The Stanely Parable also gets called a walking simulator.

I think it's mostly because the story is overdone. Once I understood what's happening (which happens like 1/4 of the way through the game), I had to force myself to continue playing just in case a curve ball gets thrown towards the end. It's just generally disappointing and I wish more things happened that got you excited about the atmosphere and the story in general.
But I have to say, bashing it for the fact that "you can complete it in 2 minutes" is painfully stupid.

I am not saying that gone home is the worst thing ever, but it hardly has any gameplay at all, costs quite a bit and is under 2 hours long. To me it seems like it is trying to be artsy for the sake of being artsy.
I don't even hate Gone Home or anything, but it most certainly doesn't deserve the awards it got.

There is simply more to the Stanley Parable than walking through a Story.
Im not gonna deny that games like Dear Esther and Gone Home had their own artistic merit but The Stanley Parable WAS a game in the fact that you could fail, that you could effect the outcome of the story.
Its ending never truly ended, the end is never the end. There was always some new nook or cranny to look at or pay attention to. The game wasn't done when the story was over, it was just waiting for you to find another way of finishing it. Even after finding where Sam went in Gone Home, there was no incentive for me to come back and play the game through again, infact it ruined future playthroughs by giving such a easy way to finish the game in practically 2 minutes.
The Stanley Parable always had this mystery behind it, like there was always another secret in one of the levels, waiting to be found. Especially on release, having anyone tell it to you would be almost like spoiling a ending. I'll admit, im one of those people that enjoyed Dear Esther and Gone Home but in terms of lifting the bar, The Stanley Parable does it with excellent humour and understood every single narrative step it took and it truly did deserve to win. Its genius lies in every single ending and the Freedom ending in particular. I felt a full range of emotions in the Stanley Parable compared to Gone Home. I was Triumphant, I was confused, I was searching, I was following and discovering, I was laughing when it threw out a witty joke on me, Pity at the most frail of moments every other emotion except Happiness in a way.
One day, i'll play them all again but its The Stanley Parable, i'll remember the most because of what it did and not what it told.
The Stanely Parable also gets called a walking simulator.
Would that make any of the "Choose Your Own Adventure" Game Books a "Walking Simulator" Game Book?
You can complete The Stanley Parable in 15 seconds, if you want. That makes Gone Home about 8 times longer.
It depends how much you want to invest in a game, at most i only see you getting about 1-3 Hours tops on Gone Home.
Finishing all the endings of the Stanley Parable and Secrets could possibly take about 6 Hours. (Took me that long anyway.)

Granted, Gone Home wasn't all that and a bag of chips, but the 2-minute argument is stupid. The story was sweet, but predictable as all hell. Only finished it because I thought it would have ended with a [sp]double-suicide in the attic[/sp] instead of how it did end.
