And this ladies and gents is why I stopped playing tf2
A hat? Wow you must be easily effected by trivial things!
I don't understand how something as cosmetic as a hat could "ruin" an entire game. Will someone explain?
People say hats "dont effect the gameplay whatsoever" From what I see these days hats are essentially the goal of the game. I dont know a lot of people who couldnt care less about them. All everyone wants is to play the actual game just so they can earn more hats to show off with. Before you all make fun of me i'm just reporting what I see.

From when I started playing TF2 around 2010, hats to me were just a reward for playing the game, and they still are. Now, I'm not sure what servers you frequent, but I move around from many servers and I rarely see anyone actually give much of a shit about hats. People are generally too focused on the game itself to notice hats. Or at least that's what I generally see.
the difference between what activision and ea does and what valve does is that map packs and shitty dr. pepper sponsored skins don't randomly drop like items from tf2. all you have to do is wait for some items to drop into your inventory and then you could probably craft the hat.
I play on a good community server and all I see is people having fun playing the game. Occasionally someone will talk about unusuals. Now that I think about it a lot of the frequent players there have unusual hats :v:
I don't understand how something as cosmetic as a hat could "ruin" an entire game. Will someone explain?
coz dey maek our characters lewk silly and ruin da artstyle :c
This seemed like a blatant cash grab to me at first but then I realized it was simply a way to weed out the idiots.
Cosmetic items are the absolute best form of item purchasing, because they make almost fuck all difference to the game,
honestly i cant be mad at valve for this shit anymore, the tf2 community has certainly shown that this is exactly what they want to spend money on.
Someone is gonna get one then destroy it
I got bored of TF2 long before it was free to play. I don't even know if this hat mess started before or after it became free to play. I still play TF2 sometimes.. And honestly I don't give a crap about hats or in-game items.
Hats don't affect the gameplay. But they affect the community. The community is just a cesspool of shit that I don't want to be apart of so I stopped playing it years ago.
I remember playing this game back when I had to use CrossOver on Mac, and thinking "one day I'll have a Windows PC that could max this out with no issue!" then i did and it was great for about a year then all of a sudden hats and over 100 weapons [editline]31st March 2012[/editline]
coz dey maek our characters lewk silly and ruin da artstyle :c
sure, putting it like that makes the issue seem trivial, but in reality that shit kinda does- well did matter
I think that in the end it wasn't this exactly that made me stop playing. I think it was just the frequency of updates. Rather than a few new weapons and then wait a while for the next, with a bunch of suspense, now it's just here's your weekly ten weapons and fifteen hats now go play. I couldn't keep up with everything and just gave up trying to.
Some of the items required for the sets act as a cripple.
Missed the point entirely. Reread what he said:
because they make almost fuck all difference to the game,
Now do you see my point?
Too bad I ain't never gonna see these hats I doubt the people who get them are gonna stop by my 24/7 2fort server par.
Missed the point entirely. Reread what he said: Now do you see my point?
I'm pretty sure that valve acknowledged that those were pretty much a mistake, you'll notice that those hats are pretty old.
I'm pretty sure that valve acknowledged that those were pretty much a mistake, you'll notice that those hats are pretty old.
Oh yeah, you're right. It's a shame valve can't go back and remove the hats from the item sets in a future update.

If you really get pissy about a little hat someone can wear on their characters head, to the point of quittting the game, you probably shouldn't be playing TF2 anyway.
Seriously, can we leave the god damn hats be? I'd like to focus on who I'm killing and what I'm killing with then what happens to be on my head during said killing.
oh tight new hats
Oh yeah, you're right. It's a shame valve can't go back and remove the hats from the item sets in a future update.
Even then they don't make much of a difference, I almost never see ANYONE wearing or using that set.
If you really get pissy about a little hat someone can wear on their characters head, to the point of quittting the game, you probably shouldn't be playing TF2 anyway.
It isnt entirely the hats themselves. Its the effect they have on the community, turning it in to shit. Fitting avatar, by the way.
I love TF2. Now for Blackbird88 to rate me dumb. Edit: Close enough.
Same thing is probably going to be in Dota 2, check it's item schema:
"name": "Weekly Gift Giver Reward", "name": "Daily Gift Giver Reward", "name": "Weekly Matches Played Reward", "name": "Daily Matches Played Reward", "name": "Weekly Crates Opened Reward", "name": "Daily Crates Opened Reward",
its exactly the same thing as buying nx cash on maplestory people who buy hats dont realise this and valve and making fun of them
Valve are directly converting the personal funds of stupid people into funds for HL3. Good. TF2 is dead to me anyway.
