Are you trying to be witty?
Not really
It just looks like you are responding to sarcasm with sarcasm...
I used to like RockPaperShotgun, now I hate it for shit like this.
First we had RPS, and everyone got pissed off because they periodically posted badly-written dumb filler bullshit
Then, Garry got rid of RPS and replaced it with Shacknews, and everyone got pissed off because they were "boring".
Now, RPS is back and everyone is pissed off because they're deeply entrenched in a SJ crusade.
FP LITERALLY ASKED FOR THIS.
My thoughts on Penny Arcade can be summed up thusly:
1.The comic has far since passed relevance, and the fact that Penny Arcade now needs to be mindful of corporate sponsors has neutered any bite it ever had. "Adorable stuff my child does" strips don't help.
You can either be the establishment, or rail against it, but trying to do both at once is embarrassing.
2.I wonder if writer guy ever resents having to act as idiot artist's babysitter. Seriously, Gabe is always the one who can't keep his dumb mouth shut. The Dickwolves thing exploded entirely because Gabe couldn't stop stirring the shit and shut up for once in his life.

Gee, sorry for demanding good journalism.
[editline]19th September 2013[/editline]
Is that too much to ask for?
many other websites for coverage.
You'd think so.
Polygon posted an article about this as well.
I can't find a single news site worth subscribing to that will go into enough detail so as to cover all my personal niches without brown-nosing feminism nonsense.
Gee, sorry for demanding good journalism.
There was never any demand for better journalism in general, it's always specifically about the removal/return of RPS. When they aren't here FP seems to think that they're the holy grail of gaming media websites, and when they're here they suddenly become a horrible plague.
rps is the worst
nigga please
last i remember before it was taken off, rps wrote a fair amt of good articles, and the ones that pissed people off enough were the ones with "wot is x" in the title because omg its what not wot u dumb fuckers
nah they just have terrible writers, always have
Damn, it seems like the only video game journalism website with legit review scores and good articles (not shitty social justice articles that leave stuff out to prove their point like this one) these days is Polygon.

yea. not all their reviews are good but for the most part Polygon is the singular bastion of light in a sea of shit
The rape part isn't even the main element of the whole joke.
Anyone who finds this offensive should re-evaluate their lives.
anybody who doesn't should check their privilege.
I still like reading RPS, their reviews and game coverage is solid. It's just the political side that gets tiring at times. Yeah the whole gender / LBGT relation with gamers are bad at places but stop seeing issues EVERYWHERE. Some people just don't care.
Luckily it's easy to just skip those articles.
Rape is an incredibly violating and life ruining act that really has no place in comedy.
Yet murder is okay.
A++, seriously, Good Job.
We make Nazi Jokes all the time, I did Nazi dat coming. OHahahahaaha, they killed millions of people and we give zero fucks but if we even make one point about rape or make some dark humor about it suddenly BAM EVERYHTING FALLS THE FUCK APART BECAUSE WHOOOOAAAAAAAA GUYS! ITS NOT LIKE MOST RAPE ENDS IN MURDER OR ANYTHING, AMIRITEHAHAHAH.

Now that they're on a SJ crusade, I'd prefer a Giantbomb RSS feed.
Why did we want RPS back?
They only focus on PC like a bunch of circle jerking twats.

Primarily PC board wants a primarily PC RSS. We have PCGamesN for that, but not everyone likes them.
RPS is becoming almost as bad as kotaku.
If RPS wants to be big in social justice, maybe they should be the change they want to see in the world and have a member on the core team who is not a white (CIS-SCUM) male.

While I think PA's handling of some of these situations could have gone far better I think that pulling out of PAX isn't the right way to go about this sort of thing. Sticking to your morals is a good thing but it would be more positive to show up and work against what they see as an injustice.
Some people find offensive jokes funny, some take offense to them because they're offensive jokes. Kinda unavoidable. You can't avoid people taking offense to those jokes past not making them, you can handle the situation afterwards in a less sarcastic and asshole way though. I was reading some of the articles linked there, particularly the Fullbright blog post. People keep saying that people are trying to censor PA for offensive posts and working against free speech. But as someone said in reply to one of those comments, free speech doesn't mean consequence free speech. Just as PA has the right to make offensive jokes that are going to piss people off for varied, valid or invalid, reasons those same offended people have every right to criticize PA for said jokes.
I personally don't find offensive jokes in general funny, they tend to come across as juvenile and immature attempts at shock humor more than anything. I can see how the dickwolves thing for example was completely unnecessary and really didn't add a whole lot to the comic and that people did overreact to it. Some people are simply going to take jokes about rape (or in my case transgenderism) seriously because it is something they are very passionate about and which directly affects their life in some way. It's not being oversensitive for some people, in my case with the transgenderism thing, transgender people already face a shit load of discrimination and even violence for simply being that way when they can't help it. That's something that will be awhile before most pro-transgender people are going to accept jokes being made about it. Similar thing with rape jokes because there's a lot of issues with the way rape gets handled still, to the point of people all too often blaming victims or completely downplaying that it was even rape.
Regardless of whether people are being oversensitive or not these sorts of situations still have to be handled carefully or else there are still going to be consequences. In the dickwolves case it was, the way I see it at least, entirely unnecessary and didn't actually add anything to the joke they were already making. In that case simply taking a moment to think over whether it's likely to cause a huge outcry could prevent this issue. Maybe if it actually added something meaningful to the joke and the authors subsequently handled the outcry better it could go differently.

you know your dumb gaming site is bad when the articles appealing to your own personal viewpoints are awful and disagreeable
I feel like if I ever became e-famous, I wouldn't survive for more than a year before people start digging up stuff I did from ages ago or start misinterpreting everything I say demanding apologies, crying the moment I don't reply to their wave of email spam.
Then again I also wouldn't respond to the email spam. I think the problem is they started fighting the social justice storm. The only right way to deal with the social justice storm is to ignore it. The moment you make any more statements on the matter is the moment you invite the war to your door. By the way RPS, I'll buy your PAX tickets if you don't want them. Those things aren't exactly in low demand.
And with the whole "transphobic" shit that came after, he apologised and said "i think this thing i treat all trans-men-and-women how they want to be addressed sorry for being aggressive in defending myself i'm sorry for acting like an asshole" and was perfectly reasonable and everybody just seems like they were so angry they completely ignored this and got even angrier at him.
Although I agree with you, and don't really care to take a side on this issue (it's stupid drama), I have to point out one thing:
PA did not make a rape joke.
It was a joke with rape involved, yes, but the joke itself was not rape. They used rape to emphasize how terrible the slaves had it without the hero's help. Rape is considered the greatest evil in western culture, over murder and whatnot, so it worked as a way of emphasizing the terrible conditions he lived in.
The part that mentioned rape accentuated the actual joke, which is that players don't end up actually acting as a hero and saving victims, but rather fill up a number and then go get their reward. The joke has to do with how gameplay in most MMO's work, not rape.
I don't even like PA, I think their comics are boring, but to state that this is a rape joke is silly. It's not even offensive. Now, if you want to argue that what PA did afterwards, and responded was stupid, then yeah I'd probably agree. But that's where I stop caring. I don't care what some web comic did online or said, nor what some game journalist's take on it is. It's not worth the time.
Putting any sort of block or censorship on humor is stupid. If its crass low brow humor I can understand people getting mad. But if its actually well done black humor, I can still see people getting mad, but if you don't actually see the brilliance in it, its your own damn fault.
I know SVU might be disappointing compared to the main series, but this seems like a huge overreaction to just a Dick Wolf reference.
SVU has done even worse when it comes to rape cases. Seriously, they actually give the argument that the rape victim is to blame the time of day in a few episodes.
