I don't see how any of it's offensive at all, and I'm a former victim.

Here's the thing most of you are missing.
Dickwolves comic? Not really that offensive. Being approached by rape victims about the comic being problematic and responding by selling dickwolves merchandise? Perhaps the most offensive thing you can do short of selling "fuck rape victims" merchandise. Hiding behind your stupid adolescent male fans and sitting idly by as they send rape and death threats to the people who complained? Vile.
They're a bunch of manchildren who don't know when to stop digging and now they're paying the price for it. Kinda like Phil Fish.
I'm going to boycott RPS then.
I visit these gaming news sites for news, not for petty, biased rants and bitching. If the authors of this article have a problem with PAX, then they should have either made a blog post or forum post about it. They shouldn't be purposefully neglecting to report gaming news because they do not like the creators of the event.
can someone explain me why suddenly people became so sensitive to word rape
can someone explain me why suddenly people became so sensitive to word rape
uhm rapes always been a sensitive topic
can someone explain me why suddenly people became so sensitive to word rape
yikes! watch that buzzword kiddo
Although I agree with you, and don't really care to take a side on this issue (it's stupid drama), I have to point out one thing:
PA did not make a rape joke.
Fair enough point but the main focus of my post was about the response to complaints as Zeke said:

as well as a lack of forethought on PA's side. It was more a "hm, will putting this in my comic piss off a ton of people?" sort of deal. I probably could have been a bit more clear on that.

You're allowed to sell merchandise of your comics. They never once said "fuck rape victims." They said that they stand by their brand and what they wrote. They even said that they don't like rapists and if you're raping right now, you should stop. They're clearly anti-rape.
Not once did they hide behind their fans. http://debacle.tumblr.com/ Read that. At one point someone made an @dickwolf account on Twitter who just talked shit to people and Gabe himself tweeted saying "not fucking cool at all."
You're completely uninformed.
Jerry and Mike are two INCREDIBLY smart people. They're not trying to get a rise. But at the same time, they're not going to cater to a small group of people who just don't get it.
When you create something you have to stand by it. If you let other people tell you how to operate it, it's no longer YOURS. If standing by something you've made is being a manchild, you have a bizarre perception of the world.
In fact, people on the OTHER side were more offensive:

PA never said rape was good. But it's okay for people to threaten PA's lives xD
I think we should boycott RPS. Would it be petty? Yes, but no more petty than RPS is being.
Good god, 3028 words for that?
Boycott RPS for not being able to briefly summarize shit.
They never once said "fuck rape victims."
I never said they did. I said that what they did was marginally less offensive than just outright saying "fuck rape victims". People who were raped took issue with the comic and their first response to the criticism. PA, in response to this, began merchandising out of spite. That's basically a "fuck you" to rape victims, is it not?

But all they really did was mentioning rape...
Well, this is one news site I won't read anymore. Catering to the stupid "muh womyn in gaems and rape trigger comic!!!"
I mean sheeesh.
Boycotting PAX is like supporting KONY2012
everything is becoming a carebear trigger warning hugbox and it's really starting to annoy me
it's conflicting as fuck because on one hand i am okay with feminism in general and i feel bad for rape victims and every real case of it disgusts me
but on the other hand people get so fucking worked up over even subtle, respectful depictions of rape and lose their shit over the depiction of female characters if they don't meet their exact specifications and start plastering fucking TRIGGER WARNING TRIGGER WARNING TRIGGER WARNING up on fucking everything while sites like RPS and kotaku start capitalizing on the whole situation by stirring up shit on purpose because social justice wars get them hits
ugh, i don't know what to think anymore
I'm starting to get disillusioned with the whole thing. I support equality for everyone, but I find it really hard to throw my lot in with some people; which then leads to my being accused of misogyny.
I just sucks all round.
From my limited understanding, it doesn't seem like PA did anything wrong, at least not to the extent to make such a huge issue out of it, and the Internet just got their panties in a bunch.
So typical E-Drama.

PA's initial response to criticism was what caused this whole mess.
They basically acted like children, instead of owing up to their reputation and clarified the situation and context.
The people at PA like acting toxic and offensive when people overreact. They got shit thrown at them when they did the dickwolves thing and they got shit thrown at them when they made fun of people overreacting at the ME3 ending debacle.
The thing is people are usually getting even more toxic and offensive than PA when reacting to pretty much anything. It's fucking comedy, people need to grow the fuck up.

No, it's a fuck you to people who somehow managed to link a comedy strip to a real life tragedy.
My cousin died in a motorcycle accident, I won't bitch about every single occurrence of a motorcycle accident in media from this point on because it somehow relates to a tragic event in my life.
PA's initial response to criticism was what caused this whole mess.

They responded like children to people acting like children.
I think it was more than equal.
They responded like children to people acting like children.

They have a position where acting like a adult would only do good for the industry as a whole.
Stepping down to their level is self-destructive and tarnishing it.
So no, PA acting like whiny brats is not a good thing.
So if I'm understanding this right, they made a comic which some people may have gotten a bit too touchy and got offended by it. Rather than say "It's just a joke, calm down folks", PA basically turns around and gives them the middle finger.
For a large organization like PA, they kinda handled this pretty poorly. But the people who got offended were kinda overreacting. RPS is also overreacting by doing a complete boycott.
Everyone involved in this just needs to sit down, shut up the hell up, acknowledge that mistakes were made, and move on.
I think Mike Krahulik apologized over this a while ago, it's just that there's a lot of people who won't let it go.
They responded like children to people acting like children.

so why are you guys surprised that acting like children was actually a really dumb thing for PA to do
Fair enough point but the main focus of my post was about the response to complaints as Zeke said:
Hence why I said "Although I agree with you" and "if you want to argue that what PA did afterwards, and responded was stupid, then yeah I'd probably agree." I don't disagree with you, but I just want to state that it's not a rape joke.
