Saints Row 4 trailer blasts dubstep gun in 6 minutes of gameplay

If New Vegas was "Fallout 4" instead of "New Vegas" you'd have the same amount of complaints that this game has. I guarantee it.
The series kind of got lost somewhere between 2 and 3. It completely lost the ballance of a semi-functional world where one crazy protagonist does whacky things and just made EVERYTHING as batshit insane and over the top as possible. It's called overexposure, if everything is insane, nothing is.
That was the appeal of, say, starting a septic truck mission in saints row 2. Chaos breaks loose in a stylized, but relatively standard open world city. In the later sequels everything is just completely off the bat, the menus, the music, the art style, the cutscenes, the enemies, everything is trying to force as much madness down your throat as possible but that was never the appeal of it.
The first 2 saints row games look pretty darn similar.
I've said that before trying to defend this game, but it's also crossed that line as well, as I've seen with this recent trailer.
SR1 and SR2 are like night and day compared to this and SR3.
Not going to lie I do kind of like the dubstep gun
I'll join in and agree the dubstep gun was funny as hell. The powers seemed pretty cool, too. Other than that it looks like very slightly changed SR3. Though I like the idea of more vertical space.
I'll buy it in a sale like SR3.
Naaaah, i think i'll pass on this one with the infinitely better GTA V coming out around the same time and all...
It's sad to see what this series has turned to. SR2 was really good, it had THE perfect balance of serious and over-the-top. Just like GTA V is going to be.
Now it's just
"LOL GUYS LOOK HOW RANDOM AND FUNNY AND COOL WE ARE, DILDO BATS, FART HUMOR, JET BIKES AND FLYING AIRCRAFT CARRIERS, ARE WE RANDOM ENOUGH YET?"
"No? Oh, okay..."
"DUBSTEPANDEAGLESANDWUBWUBBWAAAHANDSKRILLEX AND ALIENSANDSUPERPOWERSANDRANDOMLASERSANDANDANDRANDOMSUPERPRESIDENTS AAAAAND FUCK GUYS, WE'RE SO OUT OF IDEAS"
It's fucking stupid.
That dubstep gun is like taken directly from that one youtube video
I'm sure this is the community where people say "Graphics don't make gameplay, gameplay makes gameplay" And yet people are complaining because the look hasn't exactly changed. Maybe they're planning to update the games graphics further on into development?

With 3 months left I doubt it.
Besides you can make a game be totally different without needing to change visuals.
I totally agree, it doesn't matter in the slightest about visuals to be honest. I could have just as much fun playing SR1, SR2 or SR3, I don't care about the graphics, I care about the mechanics and how fun they try to make a game. Not jumping on a "LOOKS THE SAME" bandwagon, because really, you're just doing it for ratings.
welcome to facepunch, where nobody is allowed to be skeptical of a game, be critical of how it looks, or criticize it in anyway, or else you're ~entitled~.
I'm failing to see how this should be a full fledged sequel in any way. Idiots like to argue that SR2 was the same as SR1, even though a good majority of Stilwater was redesigned, entire new districts were added, and a plethora of new secrets to explore were added. Shopping mall, anyone?
This just looks like Steelport with some alien ships. And considering this is just an expansion pack expanded into a full game, it wouldn't surprise me if that's all it ended up being. Some the powers look fun to mess with, but with after how short, disappointing, and ultimately boring SR3 was I'm not ready to bust $60 on this. I'll wait until it's in the bargain bin.

they've only showed like
one area in total so far? how can you judge something that hasnt even been shown aside from a very small area?

Lol, no one is allowed to be skeptical? More like nobody is allowed to be positive unless it's Valve or Garry.

Then they're not doing a good job of convincing me that this is a full sequel that deserves my $60.

In what way was Steelport redesigned, show me? Because AFAIK, there is one area currently shown and that has a shit ton of difference.
All GTA Mods combined into 1 game lol
I've always said keep dubstep out of mainstream media.
More people dislike the genre than there are people who like it.
It creates a wide audience gap just because of music preference.
But developers and producers just want their works to be..."hip"
2 self aware 4 me
see u can throw a dart in a crowd and find a moron that thinks this shit is spectacular
ifb you wanna talk about how great and fun and cuhrazy this game looks like go do it with your dudebros and quirky friends, online you gonna get shat on
or gamefaqs or whatever
2 self aware 4 me
its self aware shit played straight: a gun making fun of dubstep in a game made for people who like dubstep
which is the best kind of self aware shit because its the inadvertantly funniest
am i the only one who misses the gangs and shit
am i tyhe only one who misses thing obviously other people miss

That's a giant fucking dart. You don't think they would go on with SR4 if SR3 didn't sell well enough now do you? The humor, parodies and wackiness in SR4 is nothing different from SR3.
People that disliked SR3 won't like SR4, but they like to keep on complaining even though it was made clear so early on that Saints Row wouldn't go back to the SR2 formula of story telling and style of gameplay.
SR3 was fucking spectacular to play, it doesn't have much replayability, but it has a fuckton of playability when you play through the campaign and when playing multiplayer for the first 10 hours or so. It's humor is bad, but it's possibilities are amazing, it's end-content is nearly non-existent, but it's overall content is great.
SR4 is more of the same and nothing has ever stated that it would be otherwise, SR4 will be a heavily expanded SR3 the same way SR2 was a heavily expanded SR.
SR2 was a heavily expanded SR.
no

It looks exactly the same mechanically and visually and in every other way possible.
And if anything, the defense of this game is the most bandwagon-like. Since it's based on nothing whereas the people saying it's the same are basically just stating the obvious from what they've shown.

I've played every game in this series, and SR2 to SR1 is not comparable to this at all. It's a poor excuse at this point.
You can easily distinguish a screenshot of SR1 from SR2. There's no way you could do that with this game unless it includes one of their new weird guns.
You guys are fomulating opinions on a single gameplay trailer. I guess we all do, though. Of course gameplay, in some cases, will be the same. Do you want SR4 to be a FPS now? It's a 3rd person view, open world game set in relatively modern (I use that lightly) times with a twist. How much more can they really add on to it? Sure they can go back to the realistic gangs and street violence but that'll just look like a GTA clone. Saint's Row is branching into it's own brand of wacky gameplay with the possibility to do many styles of play. The story is also unique compared to other games similar to this style. I personally think they have done a pretty good job of making another one in the series.
"What about the graphics and animations?"
People seem to have a shitfit if too much is changed. They seem to if not enough is changed as well. Sure the graphics could be improved upon, but realism isn't the feel they're going for. Should I redirect to the superpowers, aliens, and a gangster ball-crushing president? The graphics are enough to look good without giving a serious tone.
The animations? I honestly can't argue that too much. I guess if it isn't broke (I never found it to be) then don't fix it. This is a MUCH bigger jump from 3 than 2 was to 1. Over the top? A big yes. That'll only make the game more noticable. I'd much rather superpowers and aliens over more dildos at least.

But dubstep is dumb so no buy from me. Clarifying that this is sarcasm.

ah yes, lets see, how many people just come in here and say 'remember x or y' and leave
Like I said in the other thread. Crackdown plus Prototype plus Destroy All Humans.
I think a lot of people have forgotten how little the SR3 trailers actually showed of the game itself.
Just like the SR3 trailer this trailer is just showing off some features of the game that aren't really all that exciting on their own, and is just a tidbit of the whole package, it's rather how you take advantage of the stuff shown yourself and how you obtain and use them through the story that makes it fun.
idolninja says its a step in the right direction, and he played a bit of SR4, so my hopes are average. but it looks fun.
as long as they fill the world with more goodies this time, and not have so much detailed, empty space in the city. seriously, steelport is an amazing city in sr3, and theres so much to look at and explore, but there's just nothing there but the occasional collectable or easter egg of some kind.
Man, this looks like a really fun DLC. :downs:
