Microsoft: Keyboards are scary, please buy our $150 controller.
Even if we had pressure sensitive keys, there would still be some game genres that just don't work on keyboard. Platformers, Racing games and Fighting games all play terribly on keyboard, and there's no changing that.
I dunno, the only real problem I have with platformers on a Keyboard is if you have a Keyboard with a 3 key limit for what's pressed at once. Years of Game Maker and emulators basically trained me to be proficient with Z X C / A S D and the Arrow Keys.

Yes, squishy keys (which is what keys like that would be) are horrible
So would that mean you could type in all caps if you hit the keys really hard? :v:
There's gonna be weeaboos smashing their keyboards for every sentence with caps lock
I think it's not really meant to be hating on the keyboard and more about promoting their controller as they make a profit on those.
This is what should be done, and frankly it already has, here it is.

Pressure sensitive keys. Dont put pressure sensitive keys on actual typing keyboards, just make peripherals, and there you go.
Scary, when you realise the team you are playing against is armed to the teeth with them and yours isn't.
I'm just waiting for pressure sensitive keyboards so we can finally control movement speed without modifiers, then it'll be superior in every way.
because you never really need more than two movement speeds - full and zero (walk in rare cases). Since the thing that needs variable velocity is your aiming.
Sure most games feature some acceleration to your move speed, but more of a visual (and in some cases balancing) thing.

Please no, I don't want to read SH in all caps

what, can't handle the sensationalism??

What about stealth games?
Yep, why this hasn't become a thing by now is beyond me.
Probably because you mash incessantly on keyboard keys considerably more and at a considerably faster pace than on a controller, which would result in broken sensitivity much faster than on a controller.
It'd also be a rather expensive feature to implement and not all keyboards would include it so having games utilize a feature that's not universal to all keyboards would be a mess.

What if we have a pressure sensitive switch that can be laid on top of supported(TM) keyboard switches and then through driver it would act as pressure sensitive buttons?
I'm just waiting for pressure sensitive keyboards so we can finally control movement speed without modifiers, then it'll be superior in every way.
Last I heard of Aimpad their analogue keyboard is hardware complete and just need some fine tuning for the software to work out some kinks and then it's good to go. Am pretty stoked myself, I remember some experiments I did a while ago with gamepad in one hand and mouse in the other in BF3, worked well other than the obvious thumbstick disadvantages.

Have fun trying to do precision driving or flyingwith a keyboard

I don't try, I DO.

not really. it's the mouse that's superior. the only thing that's superior about a keyboard is the fact that it has a lot more buttons, but that doesn't necessarily have to be a downfall for other input methods. the PC gaming community likes to bash any gamepad related input method but if you consider all the pros and cons of each device it's really not the landslide victory for M&K that people make it out to be.

Thumbsticks have traveltime.

Wrong, you know those parts of games where you have to follow some slow fucking NPC but your run speed is too fast and your walk speed is too slow? Or what if you don't want to slam your foot down on the pedal while you're driving in GTA?
You forgot the fact that you can instantly let go of a directional key and press another. Thumbsticks have traveltime.
That travel time is almost never important.

It is if you're playing something hyper competitive like Quake, or trying to use techniques to come to a complete stand-still in Counter-Strike for instant precision.
I still think having a keyboard with a little integrated analog stick somewhere near the WASD keys so you can use it for movement in games would be neat.

which is why gamepads should be using the 6 idle fingers on the back for buttons instead of making the thumbs do everything.
Microsoft is actually putting some buttons on the back of its new Elite controller which is coming out soon.
