• Razer Surround turns stereo headsets into 7.1 surround sound; free till 2014

How exactly is would it be 7.1? 7.1 implies that there's 7 speakers/channels of audio and one sub. Not to mention with headphones stereo would create a 3D effect simply by the delay of one sound on one ear to the other.
Would be nice if there was a hotkey to enable / disable the surround sound.
The demo is such a joke though, the OFF has massively reduced bass making it sound shitty.
Creative cards have done this for ages
Yeah, I'll stick with my own headset's built in surround sound. I don't need Razer trying to laughably use software to do anything.
Doesn't OpenAL do the same thing?
sounds better than the g35 inbuilt surround sound

Sounds like shit IMO. Makes music sound very muddy.

In my case though, It's quite neat and I see no reason to grab it now that it's free.
Oh god this pumps up my bass to where it fucks everything up
Oh god this pumps up my bass to where it fucks everything up
You can disable the bass booster.
why are you guys acting as if virtual surround has never existed before this i'm sure there are way better implementations too
Honestly, I'd prefer a game that deals with surround sound internally as opposed to some application that tries to figure out how the surround sound is meant to be.
How the FUCK
Love how this works 10x better then the stock G35 surround. Synapse 2 barely sucks up any RAM/CPU, i use it since it first came around so don't be shy to download it.
This is worth a try. I have 7.1, but I wouldn't mind trying on my old set.

Sweet! I just got a headset (h8 all you want turtle beach 21) and I was just reading about how virtual surround can be better, then this comes out for free.
I thought I could do the surround via my audio manager. So I uninstalled Razer in favour of my system's manager. Shit, I was wrong. Metro 2033, and Just Cause 2 are noticably lacking in audio now that I removed Razor. No, it's not the bass boost, or aything else, as I disabled them before playing. The 7.1 surround sound effect was gone, and now I'm going to re-install Razer's Software.

My G930's surround sound makes shit sound echo-ey. Is this different?
It's alright, probably great for people that didn't bother with a dedicated Creative card. Having tried it, however, I'll stick with my dedicated.
Used this as a test, worked fucking amazing
but that is supposed to be used with plain stereo equipment?
I got a problem with this. When I run it, there are no audio devices I can pick: There are no audio devices with names when I scroll up, and none of them work when I test them. The audio device from the program produces sound, but I can't hear it. Windows 8 x64, regular old 3.5" headphones powered by USB.
Testing this now with my g35. It already made a new audio channel and refuses to acknowledge my g35 even as a stereo speaker.
Seems to work pretty well with my Madcatz FREQ5's. Just the demo with the helicopter thing when i was calibrating gave me that weird feeling in my back when someone's right behind you with something sharp.
Sounds like any other game with decent sound work plus lots of bass. The only real claim they have as to why it's better than generic virtual surround is that it's customizable.
