who has figured out a way to allow Skyrim to allocate blocks of memory greater than 256MB,
Dayum.
Wow, you can finally do something possible day one on Mount and Blade in Skyrim!
Does this mean it will run better?
Does this mean it will run better?
"no more freezes"
Probably runs worse then, but in exchange for being more stable.

More memory to play with = runs worse?
Well who knows, since the engine was designed for 256 mb heaps and now you unshackle it. We'll see once the mod is properly released.
More memory to play with = runs worse?
This won't cause the game to run any better at all FPS wise, its just a memory tweak
What it will do is allow the game to run with higher memory limits, which means it should freeze/crash/get stuck on loading screens much less when running the game with more than a couple dozen light mods.
It also means you can increase uGrids theoretically without issue, since historically doing that would pretty much make it impossible to do anything without crashing/freezing due to memory limits.
Increasing uGrids WILL seriously kill your frame rate because it literally loads in more cells into the game, unless you have a good video card.
As far as my testing went you can easily get the uGrid value up without the fear for CTDs or Freezing. Runs smooth even with tons of mods added. Way more stable than ever before.
300+ NPC battles would be hilarious if only because of the pisspoor AI.

shame that mount and blade warband is the one game that actually managed to have character models worse than oblivion
Funny how I found the topic on the ENB forums and thought it was just a neat new tip and trick. Seems this is turning into a big deal for people. To be fair though, it fixes a significant amount of stability problems for everyone, it's a new chapter in modding the game I'd say.

Can see it now, 1 stray arrow or fireball leading to friendly fire and suddenly it becomes a 300+ free for all.
Probably runs worse then, but in exchange for being more stable.
Well performance wise it will run basically the same. It lets you run more intensive mods and options like uGrids which will kill performance.
Any video of said battle?

Imagine all the warcries and dialogues that the soldiers yell during combat that are repeated absurdly.

Just imagine the moment you activate the AI and hear:
"Never should have come here"x100
"You picked up a bad time to get lost my friend"x100

Imagine hearing 300 times .. well... that sentence.
what
The guy who found the fix made the intructions to use that as the function name.
So that's how you activate it.
Does this mean it will run better?
I tried it, loading times are MUCH faster, hell, my FPS is slightly higher too, all around its FAR better

I'll be remaking the code he has to allow the block size to be set via INI and make the other INI edit more descriptive
[editline]21st January 2014[/editline]
A little warning, don't set the memory limit higher then 1GB per block, papyrus doesn't like this

Not to mention relatively speaking many of the fixes people made were pretty soon after launch. It's not even like most of the major things took a lot of time to fix. Many of the great mods out there are sometimes really basic like UV fixes so textures don't warp. Or something like fixes how menus don't work right or something. Most of what I download for mods are really minor things that just seem like an oversight.
You don't even need loads of mods to make skyrim so much better. Just grab the unofficial patches, Audio engine overhaul, one of the major texturepack mods, LOD mods, and an animation replacement. Maybe even a game overhaul pack like SkyRE (My current favourite.) SKSE and SkyUI. Like 10 mods maybe and the game is just completely improved in so many ways.
But you can make skyrim almost as changed as you want.

Indeed.

Still doesn't fix the core problems of the game, like poor quest variety, the world and storyline revolving completely around you leading to every other character being about as interesting as a cardboard cutout, the awful guild questlines (where a warrior that can barely cast a fireball can go from initiate to becoming the archmage of the guild in one ingame day), the severely dumbed down character progression, the lack of any real ability to make any sort of meaningful choice or decision or to actually affect the world, etc etc etc.
All these mods, while inventive and fun, are only masking the problems, and short of being fully remade from the ground up the community can only do so much to fix a fundamentally broken game. That isn't to say modded Skyrim isn't a fun game, it just isn't a fun Elder Scrolls game.
This is good news, more modding powah!
I haven't played in 6 months.
Recommend some good mods?

might have to unfuck my game and try this out. Hopefully I'll be able to save my character, but I won't hold my breathe.
