Baffled by the lack of GTA 4 on this list, A game that my i5 2400 processor still cannot seem to wrap its head around.
Saints Row 2 made the GTA4 port look good. At least the latter was somewhat playable? Regardless, the RAGE Engine (Rockstar Advanced Game Engine Engine) at the time of release was just plain bad. Even the console versions ran like ass and the textures were mediocre at best.
God I remember getting Spiderman 2 on PC when I was younger, I was soooo disappointed. It was literally a different game then the PS2 version.
surprised deadly premonition isn't there genuinely unplayable unless the stars align for you, and thats after the fan patch is installed
Bad optimization =/= bad port. There's a lot more going in to make something a really bad port. GTA4's only issue on PC was optimization.
So having 1:1 content parity is the only quantifier for being a good port? And you're fine with your performance being a sine wave between 1 and 60 fps on PC? Pay some 60 euros for a console export that disregards platform's strengths and plays right into bottlenecks?
I can run GTA IV fine as long as I don't set shadows to very high. It seems that setting wasn't properly optimized even with a high end GPU.
if that's true then dark souls was a perfect port despite not being able to run above 15 fps without a fix I'd mention broken controls too but that's not really a game that works on KB/M to boot though at the same time gta4's optimization really wasn't as awful as other games, at least the game runs. [editline]18th August 2016[/editline] without dsfix i literally cannot run the game even on a 970, and if I do it does maybe 30 fps some of the time if it wasn't for dsfix ds1 on pc would have been a lost cause
Dark Souls was way worse, since its PC controls were completely fucked and it was locked to 720p and barely had any graphical settings. GTAIV had a ton of settings. [editline]19th August 2016[/editline]
So having 1:1 content parity is the only quantifier for being a good port? GTAIV was badly optimized, but other than that, the PC controls worked perfectly well, it didn't have any crazy bugs that were introduced in the PC version and it had a ton of different graphical options. Bad ports don't have those things and more. Like SR2, which ran worse than GTAIV, looked like dogshit compared to GTAIV, the PC controls were kinda fucked up at times and it had the ridiculous CPU speedup bullshit.
What about FF13 on launch? Locked to 720p, forced 4x MSAA, no graphical options, performance issues, pressing escape kills the game. They had to advertise custom resolutions and graphics options in the later ports :v:
At least Batman got his shit together. They fixed almost all problems and I was able to play through it with zero problems. The game is fantastic too.

ClaDun's probably a worse port than some of the examples mentioned on this article, and for these reasons • Game always runs at 480x272. Playing the game on full-screen will probably give your monitor a heart attack • Combat controls are directly tied to menu bindings. This makes controller binding a nightmare and on top of this, forces you to stick with the already bad default keyboard controls. • Apparently, a pixel art dungeon crawler originally on the PSP is more CPU intense than saaaay Crysis 2 • You can thank this game for why people would be more than happy to defend bad ports from Japan until the later half of 2015.
Baffled by the lack of GTA 4 on this list, A game that my i5 2400 processor still cannot seem to wrap its head around. I also would still appreciate a bare bones port of Spider
People still bitch about GTA 4 but its completely fine now. I played it a lot, maxed out, and never had frame dips or problems. Yeah sure it was bad at first but its fine now
People still bitch about GTA 4 but its completely fine now. I played it a lot, maxed out, and never had frame dips or problems. Yeah sure it was bad at first but its fine now
Mine runs completely stable as well. GTA 4 is really weird.
EFLC doesn't run as good though, does it?
I'm one of the special snowflakes who didn't have an issue with GTA 4 even when it first came to PC. I don't know why or how but it just never gave me issues.
People still bitch about GTA 4 but its completely fine now. I played it a lot, maxed out, and never had frame dips or problems. Yeah sure it was bad at first but its fine now
lets not forget that it had GFWL, and that was a fucking disaster
lets not forget that it had GFWL, and that was a fucking disaster
That spawn of Satan doesn't need to be mentioned!
That spawn of Satan doesn't need to be mentioned!
heh what a lovely day the internet is out but at least i can play gta toda- o... oh... oh wait [sp]at least they added an offline mode eventually[/sp]
dont forget securom, social club ( back when it was a standalone app like steam) AND steam it was fucking loaded with drm, no wonder it ran like shit
Still cracked after a couple of days :v:
Still cracked after a couple of days :v:
As far as i know, the pirated version ran a lot better compared to the legit counterpart, the same counts for GTA V at the moment where people achieve higher FPS with a cracked copy
At least Batman got his shit together. They fixed almost all problems and I was able to play through it with zero problems. The game is fantastic too.
Yep runs at a solid framerate on high settings now, I first finished the game at 30 fps on low settings, what a piece of shit that was Too bad about the whole port disaster, Knight was a really good game
I must be the only person in the world who didn't have a problem adapting to the original RE4 PC port's keyboard-only controls. And that was basically my first shooter without mouse look too, I never played any old keyboard-only games like Doom.
I know GTAIV had a rough launch but I never had any issues with it at all, in fact it was only after the patch that 'fixed' the game for everyone else that mine started to fuck about, FPS would tank to single digitsafter an hour of play only fixing itself if I restarted the game. And holy fuck, Dead Space 1, the game is fantastic and it actually ran alright, but they completely bodged the control scheme on PC, it was still shockingly awful to the point it really killed my enjoyment of it, i went and bought it on 360 and had a much better experience.
As far as i know, the pirated version ran a lot better compared to the legit counterpart, the same counts for GTA V at the moment where people achieve higher FPS with a cracked copy
Only reason why GTA V ran better because arxan anti tamper was removed from the game.
Wouldn't just buying a 360 controller for your PC have been a better option?
Wouldn't just buying a 360 controller for your PC have been a better option?
Assuming this is in reponse to my post, the sensitivity settings were all kinds of fucked on the PC controller, you could get edits configs for a 'better' experience, but aiming was still complete arse no matter what you did in comparison to the console version.
Ya'll all make me feel a bit odd mentioning GTA IV. I got that thing running on an ATI X1800XTX 256mb and an AMD Athlon64 3800+ dual core back in the day, when it first came out even. Ok sure it wasn't exactly buttery smooth, and it hated trying to share 2gb of DDR400 with Vista Ultimate X64. but it was getting enough of a framerate that I could play it and enjoy doing so. Mostly. Unless it rained or I installed too high poly a car mod.
People still bitch about GTA 4 but its completely fine now. I played it a lot, maxed out, and never had frame dips or problems. Yeah sure it was bad at first but its fine now
It still runs worse for me today than on the significantly worse hardware I had when I got it
GTA 5 is one of the best port i've ever seen and many people think like me You can see they didn't wanted to repeat the horrible GTA 4 port, here they took their time with the port, they polished the game and optimized it as fuck, and you got a really well optimized game. Rockstar is definitely one of the best videogame developer in the market (Excepted the fact that they treat their employee poorly.)
surprised deadly premonition isn't there genuinely unplayable unless the stars align for you, and thats after the fan patch is installed
I had this game run pretty well for me, it crashed a few times every now and then but it was playable. Bummer others have issues with it, it's a really interesting game :(
I had this game run pretty well for me, it crashed a few times every now and then but it was playable. Bummer others have issues with it, it's a really interesting game :(
Outside of a few minor tweaks for resolution, Deadly Premonition was an alright port considering.
GTA 4 wasn't a bad port, it was just poorly optimized, there's a different. Other than the optimization, the PC version is perfectly good.
I get what you're saying since GTA4 did have good pc controls, settings, and all the stuff that makes a PC game a PC game but bad optimization still makes it a bad port
