Impressive as it may be I see no reason to have doubted Source in the first place. Only reason we don't see more Source games that look like this is because its poster-games (HL2, L4D, Portal series) play it safe to appeal to a wide scope of hardware (basically any standard rig or console from 2005 or later) and feature more enclosed or geometric environments (not that that's necessarily a bad thing). Just because Source is great at rendering awesome hallways doesn't make it bad at rendering awesome islands. v:v:v

Have you even played the original?

Hello FPKawaii. I like your avatar. Good opinion on a game too, you've so clearly played the original. Have some dumbs.
I have played the original, and it's a fucking long walk on the beach simulator. You listen to a dude talk about some shit while you walk on the beach, through a cave, then up a hill. Sure, it's a pretty game, but why the hell would you pay money for half an hour of that? And thanks for bringing my avatar into this, that's completely related, isn't it?
Guy in the trailer sounds like Richard Burton
Wait, the game really is just a walk around a map with a narrator? It's a beautiful map, but really? I'm being reminded of The Graveyard here, and the pretentiousness sound of this being sold at $10 is really making my rage build up here.
HOLY SHIT RELEASE DATE It actually beat black mesa source WANT [editline]19th January 2012[/editline]
Wait, the game really is just a walk around a map with a narrator? Skip a lunch for a day and you could probably afford it.

This is so much more. [editline]19th January 2012[/editline]
And thanks for bringing my avatar into this, that's completely related, isn't it?
Yes, it is.
The Graveyard was literally 10 minutes of an old lady walking in a black and white cemetery. If I wanted to find hidden meanings of shit I would talk to some hipsters or emo kids, but I want to play a game, and I want there to be at least part of the game that involves you actually doing something.

Also, why are you sticking around this thread when the mere existence of this game seems to offend you? Is "finding hidden meanings" the most creative activity you can pull out of a piece of entertainment work with a strong narrative? Is it so strange to you to that an interactive medium can exist for something more than to just provide you with a few minutes of mindless shallow fun? I don't pretend to have an overwhelming fondness of non-mainstream games but apparently unlike you there are a lot of people who can appreciate games that doesn't try to impress solely with killstreaks, highscores and achievements. I agree on that it seems a bit off to charge $10, though at this point I'm so curious at how that amazing Source graphics will look in action that I'd be willing to see past that just to experience it.

Entertainment is a very broad umbrella when it comes to what you can experience. It isn't always about doing something. As I recall, the original Dear Esther was produced as a university-funded experiment. Can a game that is solely story with no mechanics still be regarded as a game?
I agree on that it seems a bit off to charge $10, though at this point I'm so curious at how that amazing Source graphics will look in action that I'd be willing to see past that just to experience it.
I think that $10 is justified. You have an industry professional map artist who took up this remake on his own prerogative (pulling in a coder and a concept artist as well), the original creator who has come back to tighten and expand on the story, and the composer whose original music score is now being played by a live orchestra. $10 is a fast-food meal.
hey fpkawaii nobody's forcing you to play it. mod looks beautiful and i'll buy it just to make a let's play of it.
$10 Dollars isn't that much. Skip a lunch for a day and you could probably afford it.
My lunches cost $1.61, so more accurately around 6 lunches.
The Graveyard was literally 10 minutes of an old lady walking in a black and white cemetery. This is so much more.
Please do tell, because I kinda do want to be convinced. But the comparisons to The Graveyard which I think is universally hated with people I respect are kinda frightening. It was $1 to walk through a graveyard for 10 minutes. How is this $10 to walk along a beach for 30 minutes?

How is this $10 to walk along a beach for 30 minutes?
First off, you aren't just going to be on the beach. Do you see all the locations in the trailer? A ruined cabin, a downed cargo ship, a system of caves, cliffsides, hills and valleys and plains, theres more than just a beach. Meanwhile in The Graveyard... It's a graveyard. Second, I'd say its worth $10 for the visuals alone, these are looking better than Crysis and I am seriously impressed that it's on source. But the graveyard is not visually impressive. It doesn't even have its own artstyle to compensate for this and everything is in black and white. And other things like great voice acting, an amazing musical composer, and the fact that Dear Esther actually tells a story, its worth the $10.
