It's a very fresh setting which is great on paper but I can't really see any appeal in it. That's a lot of brown filters, too.
Being an art director must be the easiest fucking job ever at Ubisoft. Just smash colour correction on and make it brown or blue.
So basically Far Cry 4 without guns?
I don't see the appeal.

Not really?
So what am I going to climb instead of towers? Giant trees?

Fallout with sticks
Actually might work pretty well.
I mainly used the stealth melee attacks and the bow in FC3/FC4. Guns were only for when I fucked up, or went into a scripted firefight, or needed to blow up ALL the stuff. From what I've heard, a lot of people did that as well. The Shangri-La sidequests in FC4 even left you nothing else to use.
This will be basically an entire game of that, plus the regular crafting system. I think a full-length game of it would be over-stretched, but another Blood Dragon-sized game, a standalone expansion pack, might work fine.

Except the major pull of Blood Dragon was the humor, almost entirely. It otherwise recycled FC3's gameplay and I don't see them getting remotely creative with this.
Well, that was one hell of a boring trailer. But kudos for them experimenting like this with their franchises.
Skyrim without guns is just Skyrim. :v:
On a serious note, I'm curious to see what they're going to replace the main feature of the series (gunplay) with.
I loved farcry 4, this should be fun. Haven't even played valley of the yetis yet
I really like how they're experimenting with new settings, but why make it part of the Far Cry franchise?

Far Cry's only setting consistency is "wild". We've had tropical islands, African brush, jungle, mountains, volcanoes, but the urban areas are small and isolated.
Plus, I imagine they'll have the normal base-conquest thing going on here.
This seems more like an expansion, or a spin off, than a full game (Far Cry 5)

Only real deviation is not being set in modern time. Far Cry is more of a game type than a setting or story.

I kind of hope that's actually what it is. Similar to Blood Dragon.
I say this because despite touching on a fresh setting, I feel that won't be enough to actually hold my interest or any other gamer's interest for the game if it was a full blown sequel (FarCry 5). They have some interesting things they can work with though, I imagine. If anything, Shangri-La from FC4 shows some of the crazy and exciting things the world of mysticism can bring about in the series.
Wish they'd bring back Instinct mode already. Super punching was always so fun.

in that case it best be worth it, it has alot of potential
remember when far cry was about a b-movie action dude stuck on an island secretly inhabited by mutants?

Those were better, simpler times.

Definitely not better, FC3 was overall a much better game than FC1. FC1 was cool for the first hour or two but when the mutant shit came in it just turned to shit.

Just like Crysis.
FC1 had some cool stuff in it but the ai was either completely retarded or 100% bullshit see you through walls tier of intelligence.
Also fuck the mutant parts.
The instincts branch of the series was pretty cool at least in terms of multiplayer and some of the sp elements.
People definitely look at the first Far Cry through rose-tinted glasses, the superhuman AI is bad enough but when the one-hit-kill mutants show up it gets a lot less fun.

For different reasons though. In Far Cry fighting soldiers is hard and then fighting mutants is ridiculously hard. In Crysis fighting soldiers is fun (you can actually use stealth too) then fighting aliens isn't as fun.

We need another Far Cry Vengeance
