All of this is recorded with the spectator mode, which is why it looks buggy. When you actually play it it's not like this, trust me. [editline]4th August 2013[/editline]
"Shit, the fans are complaining that we used too much blue in the color grading. What do we do for the sequel?" "No colors but the explosions and muzzle flashes!" Granted, like riki2cool said, it's probably not fully textured, and it sure as hell isn't finished yet. But something tells me it's still not gonna make up for the lack of color in a truly significant way..
actually the only reason is because the huge building in the middle of the map fell down (this happens mid-game), layering the surounding area with a huge layer of dust basically like the 9/11 aftermath.
It cracked me up how the very first clip showed a guy getting bullseyed by an RPG and brushing it off like it was nothing.
There is also the fact that when buildings fall they cover everything with dust so thats going to make textures looks all one color.
fuck me this looks boring
As for teamwork, now the game is dying down more there is more and more teamwork evident. Were you really expecting a game with a massive advertising budget to attract nothing by hardcore operators who don't veer from the spec ops manual of killing Russians? Of course it would have a ton of idiots who rush ahead for kills, from what I remember, BF2 suffered this greatly in it's infancy too (and hell, it still has the problem today).
Ever since Bad Company the gameplay has been geared to reward this sort of behavior to a greater degree than previously however. BF2 was annoying in a hundred ways but the technical and mental reward for working together was greater.
Wow why did they show that map, the art's not even halfway done.
What they showed at E3 looked better.

Be directly hit by any launcher rounds and survive it, but anyone in the radius around you dies. It's really, really random at times.
In this thread I learned everyone is a highly respected video critic who can make judgments on alpha's of games, that 100% reflect the final product.
Why do people still think alphas are things that exist in the AAA game software space less than 6 months before launch, and that "alphas" or "betas" in general within a year of a AAA game's launch will somehow magically look and work completely different to the launch Newsflash: it won't. The beta for BF3 hardly changed at all except in matters of balance (which is what the betas are for, also getting gameplay statistics and as a pseudo-demo promo) between it and the release version. Almost every single AAA game I've seen that had a beta-period, the game was practically the same between launch and the beta, mostly because the beta wasn't early and betas largely are 100% feature complete and more about balancing and as a form of marketing. What you are seeing here, in all likelyhood, is exactly what BF4 will play and look like bar small visual and gameplay changes. Especially since its extremely close to launch in software development terms, well past the detail/polish phase in the development cycle. I mean dice could be actually doing a "not-feature complete and pre-polish" alpha/beta this close to launch, but I honestly doubt it. I'd believe you if this was last year or early this year, but not now.
RFB confirmed, neato. Really like the way the map looks, hope I don't have to suffer through any jungle environments.
thermite grenade looks neat, probably a good weapon against tanks or armoured vehicles in close spaces
probably because its an alpha
Alpha with 2 months till release?
Still no shutter blur :/
Amazing how people think this is what the final product will look like.
Amazing how people think this is what the final product will look like.
The game comes out in two months. They're going to have to be working overtime to get a lotta that texturing work done unless they put in dev textures for the alpha testing so that the graphics don't get in the way of testing the base gameplay and animation elements.
Amazing how people think this is what the final product will look like.
It's either that or really old footage this game releases in three months, that's not very long in AAA game development time, and definitely not long enough for this to be alpha footage. it's beta footage, and we all know what the differences were between Battlefield 3 Beta and the Release version. [editline]4th August 2013[/editline] The textures are unfinished though, not even dust settling everywhere from a building collapse would give everything that flat, uniform shade of grey
I want to see some footage of big, open maps.
Holy shit those map textures look pretty damn bad. I mean they look so flat, claylike, and also gross looking bumpmaps. Even though I have no plans on ever buying the game, I just hope that the final product won't look anywhere near that.
I'm pretty sure it's not done [editline]4th August 2013[/editline] Not sure how to feel about hitmarkers not being in.
Looks like crap, if only I could still find servers for Bad Company 2.
uuuhhh... there are hundreds of bc2 servers?
Looks like crap, if only I could still find servers for Bad Company 2.
this post just proves that you didn't even try to look for servers, because there are tons
In this thread I learned everyone is a highly respected video critic who can make judgments on alpha's of games, that 100% reflect the final product.
guess what; when a game's like 3 months from release it's gonna be essentially feature complete and people are therefore entitled to comment on the gameplay but not any minor bugs that they might see and the gameplay looks boring as fuck

Honestly at this point semi-realistic graphics are pretty good looking and devs should try and use all that extra processing power they're getting for other stuff, like more realistic ragdoll physics or something.
it's beyond me why everybody wants to make the same games a million times over when they could be making new and interesting things
popular things will make money for sure. new things, not so much

Seriously, developers love to see people make new and unique games, they want to see games other than current triple a ones.
Oh how I yearn to play Titan mode on Frostbite 3 and not the same tango down oscar mike modern warfare level up crap again and again. DICE - make it happen.

As the beta is open normally we'd be informed. The alphas for BF3 were all quite old builds of the engine/ game used to test BattleLog, functionality and such. The alpha came out only a few months before release then as well, the beta comes out next month IIRC, then release. The changes between the alpha and beta in BF3 were quite big, largely we lost a lot of destruction because it was buggy as fuck.
Am I supposed to be impressed by this? [img_thumb]http://filesmelt.com/dl/lolwhat3.jpg[/img_thumb]
Out of all of the things you could complain about, you complain about the quarter of a second in the RPG's firing animation... in the closed beta of a game that's due in like, 3-4 months?
Graphics aside, it looks as if it plays exactly the same as BF3 so who cares.
