Isn't everything the center of the universe because it's so big?
No, it may be big but it's still finite
Procedural generation is almost always smaller filesize than stored content. Maybe not even "almost" always - I can't think of any counterexamples. For an extreme case of getting small filesizes through procedural generation, look at .kkrieger, which is a Quake 3/Doom 3-tier game, graphically, but fits onto a standard floppy disk.
Or this procedural landscape demo: After seeing the video, can you guess how much space it takes? [sp]In fact, everything you see in this video fits within a 4-kilobyte file, including the music.[/sp] Here's a download: http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=52938
Elite Dangerous with even less to do, is what I've been thinking of it
I treat Elite like a simulator and have gotten some good hours out of it just from exploration but if this game has even less, yeah I'd be worried.
Actually it would seem more likely itd be smaller, since data for planet geometry and parameters is being made on the fly rather than being preprogrammed in
apparently most of it is music.
Lovely terrain, but when you zoom all the way into it, then it will not look that good anymore.
It's not difficult to change it to have extreme texture and geometry detail - It's procedural after all. [editline]11th July 2016[/editline]
apparently most of it is music.
I doubt it. I'm sure most of it lies in textures and assets.
I really don't see this game going anywhere ever. Right from the start when it was announced, it just sounds boring with nothing to do other than watching a galactic zoo.
Most of the file size is audio :O
Source? I think that's a very good thing if it's true
What's with the title?
Most of the file size is audio :O
https://twitter.com/NoMansSky/status/752253747590524930 I follow their twitter! No Man Sky will have procedural sounds, vocal sounds on animals and creatures and music. goto 37:10 But most in the game will be generated, then deleted once you move away from an planet etc. Then re-generated when you go back. You can create holes on the planet's surface.
