It happens, and it's because for major updates it basically reinstall Windows in the background

I never had it losing application preferences though. Does this creators update have widespread issues like this or is it isolated cases?

Not sure on specifics for creator but it was pretty widespread for Anniversary

Interesting you bring that up, I did the anniversary update when I changed my workstations CPU/Motherboard to a different setup again. Ended up setting up everything again, but didnt immediately think anything about it related to the update.
That coming into light, its a bit silly to think microsoft still hasn't come up with a solution into keeping application preferrences amongst the other problems.
Yeah it's just for those big updates, as it's basically another OS. They even keep various support dates for different major builds like Anniversary and Creators so you'll still get security patches on Anniversary if you have issues with Creators.
I haven't had it happen at all for any update so uhh? I'm willing to believe it's a problem for some people but I literally haven't had any issues. Though maybe that's because half the bullshit Win10 came with I straight disabled at the registry level because I just want a simple OS without all the stupid services they want to sell me? Idk. Also what's with that garbage ass quip at the end of the article about using different OS's? I don't think the author is spoiled in their "old age" I think maybe they're just straight senile.

First of all, I applaud you on making it to end of the article.
I get the annoyances, but its just poor Jarred losing his shit over simple 3 second fixes. Application defaults aren't a big problem, my phone used to annoyingly do this when apps would update. Overtime, they got it together. Its only obvious Jarred isn't going to get his shit together before he heads into a mental breakdown. One can only feel the pain his keyboard was enduring when he was writing this mastapiece.
